I just had to put my 5 month old Husky Puppy "Nakota" down yesterday. She had no cartlidge in her knees and could hardly walk on her hind legs...especially on slippery surfaces. I feel so guilty, I just took her to the vet and left her to be killed. She was such a great beautiful pup.

Guilt should be the LAST emotion in your heart, Jennifer. You gave her the gift of a painless end. Not only that, but you gave her the gifts of affection, and a good life!
Dogs don't live in the past or the future -- only humans do that. Dogs live for "now" -- and you gave her a good "now."
It's so hard, though; believe me, I know, and I imagine almost every member here knows. I'm so sorry.
But guilt -- no, no. Please try to replace that misguided feeling with gratitude about having had her for a while, and being able to do what was best for her.
Jennifer, please don't feel quilty about doing this. I recently had to put my 14 year old down, and to be honest I kept thinking Just one more round of antibodics, maybe something better for pain medication, maybe concider the surgery for his back. And to be honest, it may have bought a bit more time, but the quality of life wouldn't have been there for him.
I am going to guess that the reason you feel quilty is because "You just left her". I work for a vet and can promise you someone held that little girl and told her all would be well soon. I work for a vet and can't tell you how often an owner couldn't go into the room for the procedure, this is completely understandable..... Sometimes I have a very difficult time doing it, but I will always be there "For the Animals" That is why we work for vets.
