No images in signatures, only place that photos are allowed is in the member bio area, and then only two photos, one of which you have to be in. Check out the forum rules and the posts on using the search feature- lots of goodies to be found. Welcome!
I have read the rules and much more here. Thats why I subscribed. I didnt think a signature was considered an image. And since there is a section in your profile to set it up. Thats why I asked. Even when making a post is asks you if you want your sig posted with the message. My bad I guess.
Actually, that slick little promo is an excellent example of why images are not permitted in signatures.
It's an animated graphic, 450 pixels wide x164 pixels high. The file is hosted on a server in Great Britain. The file size is 825,531 bytes ... almost 1 Mb. For someone on a dialup line, that could take about five minutes to download.
Yes, there are many forum readers that live outside the city limits. The marginal phone lines in some areas can only support transmission speeds of about 2800 characters per second. If a user with a sig like that posts to a topic, everyone on dialup service will need to sit and wait for five minutes for that page to download. If everyone included a fancy, animated signature, even the lucky folks with broadband would feel the strain.
Some readers outside the US are charged hefty per minute rates for internet access. They can't be expected to have to pay to view unsolicited advertising.
Most of the people that frequent this forum have more productive things to do than wait for a page to load on the computer. They are more interested in dog training than in seeing fancy graphics.
With that said, there is a great wealth of lore and wisdom on tap here. I hope your contributions can add to that treasure chest.
Thank you Dennis, That is one thing I have seen here is some pretty gruff comments towards people "Slick little promo". As stated before the option is there so I tried. Kind of funny that a person can sit there and patronize another for something as trivial as that. Then go onto talk about better things to do . But the good people far outweigh the others. I have found a wealth of information on this site. I also look forward to maybe creating some new friends. Except those of course who feel compelled to drop a load on someone merely asking a question. But I guess you find some no matter where you go.
