My girlfriend has one of the most interesting breed of dogs to do schutzhund with that I have ever seen. She has a german shepherd, but she also has a little (50 pound) mix dog that does all the schutzhund one routines. This dog is a "designer mixed breed" (border collie x golden retriever x labrador retriever mix). Has anyone ever seen a mix like this do schutzhund? The dog can do the work, no doubt, but is it "normal" for a mix like this?
Tuerv mix or Groendel mix one of the two anyway. Other half GSD.
Just anote Doug went on to have the highest HOT dog in Canadian SchH and he help the record for a long time...may still?? that w/ a working line GSD.
He went on to become a schutzhund judge.
I have two dogs in my club that are Dutch shepherd X GSD's. Both were a big OOOPS! from my wife's jogging partner as DS of outstanding pedigree bred to a GSD of outstanding pedigree.
We love having them and they are fun to train with and at least one will be a nice sport dog.

The North American championships were won by a mixed breed in 1981...I believe it was a lab mix?
My new soon-to-be ASR dog ( and hopefully SchH dog, we'll see.. ) is currently a week old puppy out of a PH1 Mal cross bred to a Mal bitch. Both Sire and Dam have great genetics and are powerful working dogs, and we've been able to watch their lines for three generations now, so we're fairly sure of exactly what we'll be getting.
What we won't be getting is registration papers, oh well.
Although they won't be papered, they should be murder on four legs ......... great fun!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
In SchH, a mixed breed or unpapered dog is called "Mischling" ( German for mixed-breed )
