Hi. This is my first post here so go easy on me. I am looking to get a puppy sometime in the spring 2006. I have a couple of breeders in mind but dont want to limit myself. Advive on Mal vs.GSD would be appreciated.
Thanks
I have had a dog, yes. And I've trained friends dogs with good results (AB and field line lab) no protection training or titles though. I am a Police Foundations student in Canada with hopes of becoming a dog handler with a police force in the next several years. Most likely I will be working for one of our northern aboriginal forces (as of yet they have no k9) I am interested in police service type training, but may start with a sport. ASR seems pratcical, but there is nothing in my area. I will (hopfully) be volunteering with our city police k9. The new handler is my nieghbour and there is little interest within the force. Would a Mal be too much for me, or should I go with the GSD, as I had planned? Thanks for your response.
Id love to hear anyones opinion. I want a high drive, stable dog that I can live with. Please share youre knowledge, I dont want to make a poor descision here.
Generally speaking you would probably be happier with a shepherd, but that is not to say that there are not mals out there that would work for your situation.
I'd start with a shepherd.
I just got my first Mal a couple of weeks ago and I can see that it probably would not have gone well had I not had the opportunity to train a few GSD pups first. They are definately different.
