Hello, I'm new to the forum and have been going through past threads and found the one similar to the subject of this post. I have just purchased the Dogtra 200 NCP Gold e-collar and am thinking about getting the SCG grid pad which they advertise that you can put and leave it on your dog for much longer periods of time without hurting their necks. I noticed several of you folks said you were going to give the grid pad a try and I was wondering what you thought of it now that you've had a few months to give it a good workout. My Brittany (Opie,15 mos, male) is a great little dog and has responded wonderfully to his training (field, house and obedience),howeverhe has a way's to go and I'm finding that I'm having to repeat commands every once in awhile with no way to immediately enforce them since he can't wear the Tritronics sp60 all the time. Also, I'm aftrad he's getting collar wise since I never have to repeat a command while he has the collar on. After I read the posts addressing the grid pad I thought maybe that would be a possible solution to the problem. The Dogtra only weights 4.7 oz's compared to the 8.oz's of the Tritronics and the grid will fit perfectly on the smaller Dogtra.
Any thoughts, feedback or advice on the subject would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim
Hi Jim, I have been useing the grid for a couple of months now. Don't know whether you have seen it or not but it still has little sticky things so it's not just flat on the dog's neck. I have found that I have to crank the dial up a couple of notches for the same effect. My dog doesn't have to wear her e-collar all the time so am not sure about long time wear. She has worn it for 8-10 hours a day several days in a row without any problems. I have worn it around the house myself and it seems more comfortable to me than the other. The difference in the feel of the stim is less "sharp", but just as effective. I prefer the grid for my dog. Haven't noticed her scratching at the collar as much with the grid. I may be wrong about this but, I don't worry about the "collar wise" thing. Most smart dogs figure out pretty quick what the collar is about, where the stim comes from and why. When they're unruly they just have to wear it more!!
Good luck with your guy....they do finally grow-up!
Thanks Debbie, It looks like the pad will fit either the Tritronics or the Dogtra collars. The Dogtra is nice and small so it's really easy for Opie to wear it around the house and in the back yard. I hope the grid works out because I plan on letting him wear it all day (take it off at night obviously)around for a week or so with no sim at all until he doesn't even think about it and it's relation to correction. Collar wise is important to me because I have to have him respond immediately when were in the field for safty purposes, ie. roads, etcl I also want an obediant dog at any time.
Thanks again,

I’ve been using the grid with my Dogtra 1100NC for about 4-6 months now. I generally have the collar on 8-12 hours a day 5 days a week. I have noticed that I have been having less contact loss than I did with the regular probes on my dog. I’ve also noticed less irritation on the skin than I did with the regular probes. I’m quite happy with the results.
Have you found like Debbie that you've had to increase the settings/level considerably using the grid? When I put the grid on and trying it on myself I had to increase it quit a lot. Thought maybe I didn't have good contact so I reinstalled it,but that made no difference.
Scott,I got the grid from GundogSupply.
Jim
Thanks Jim. You're using it on a 200, correct? What level stim is normal for your dog with the grid/normal contacts?
I had originally planned to order some several months ago when Lou and Matthew first started testing them, but life took a turn for the not-so-good....back up and running now, and I think this gizmo will definitely fill a niche that has been missing from the e-training world.
