I don't know if something is seriously wrong. My guy is doing a lot of what I'd call coughing. ( inhaleing in and out of his nose and kind of gaging at the same time) Like something is caught in his throat, Then there is sneezing going on quit a bit also. He seems to feel a little down. He is still eating good. No temp. He is 9 months old. Any thoughts on this from anyone. He vet appt. isn't til Sat. and tomarro, Thanksgiving is out of town for us. I'm a little concerned. Thanks, Kitty
Kitty,
There is a terrible dog flu going around....just do an internet search for Dog Flu Greyhounds and you will find a lot of information on it.
Get the dog to the vet asap! The flu actually starts off quite mild, and the dog can even show an initial recovery without medication. Dogs have died from this flu, and I would rather be safe than sorry if I were in your shoes.
I had a friends dog who did a similar thing *during and ice storm* that ended up being tonsillitis. He had to have them out. Not sure if he was one a jello and ice cream diet though. :-)
My chihuahua does this all the time on walks during the summer-freshly cut grass causes it without fail. But it doesn't slow him down any, he just runs alone wheezing. I'd be concerned though about the fact that he's "a little down". Since there's not an obvious cause for the wheezing, I'd definitely either take him with you if you must keep your plans and find a vet where you're going to be, or take him to an emergency clinic today before you leave. There's a not so nice flu going around, I hear, and this isn't really something you want to gamble with. You'd never forgive yourself if he didn't recover because you didn't know how sick he was and put off bringing him to the vet. Happy Thanksgiving, and hope he gets better soon!
