My now 5 month old male,100% west German line GSD has very big front feet. It seems to me that they are splayed out though. What(if anything) does this mean, and is it possible that it just seems this way because they are big? I notice it really when he is walking on a linoleum floor in my kitchen.
Also, he has an annoying habit of strolling around the yard as he poops!! !!This is quite frustrating when I try to get all the pieces pooper-scooped!!!!
Is this unusual? I never had a dog before that did so much roaming as it crapped !!!
I appreciate everyone's feedback <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> As usual, VanCamp never disappoints. Come on, don't hold back....why don't you tell us what you REALLY think? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
Gotta love it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
just do as i do ,,hold his ass in place until it explodes out in one spot. then give him the freedom of the yard.
if you find you are having trouble with that method, you could simply harness a green trash bag around his stinking butt and after about a 1/2 hour or so take it off, he should be done by then. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
ha, finally got my damn rating out of the dog crap. someone digs my shit ass lame posts.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Jeannette,
Put him on a leash, give what ever command you want when he's taking a dump. I use Ka Ka. You will be supprised how convienent this command benifits you when traveling.
Dog POOPS on command, isn't that the best. Most guest go ballistic when I show them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Dogs want to learn everything they can, teach them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Just be glad that the pup goes outside. I've had a couple of dogs do the same thing....they scoot along as they eliminate. Not much you can do because you NEVER want to corect a dog for eliminating outside. You could hold him in place while he goes, but that probably won't solve the problem unless you want to do this forever. You will have bigger fish to fry than this. As far as the feet go...I'm not really sure what your worried about. maybe you can explain what you mean a little better.

WoW guys...back off!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I was just wondering if my dog is the only one that ever did that because it seemed wierd to me!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I guess you guys don't have kids running around in your yards. I worry that if I miss one poop, the kids feet will find it for me!!LOL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
Anyway, as for his feet, they splay out in the front only. Picture a human hand with the palm down. Now spread out all of the fingers. This is how his front feet are, with a greater degree of searation medially, as opposed to if all of the fingers were touching each other.
Is this normal?

Jeannette,
When walking in the grass or outside what do his feet look like. I want to think that the toe's will be tighter. When walking on a slippery floor the toe's will become opened(splayed) to get a better footing.
My Akita had a similar walk when young only on a slippery surface. You can look at a dog's paw print in the mud and see how the toe's are opened.
Trying to get good contact on surface they are walking on.
Just my thoughts, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
