My dog hasn't been herself the last week. Today she is very lethargic and doesn't want to eat. There are no other symptoms. Do I wait and let it play out or do I run to the vet. I never had a sick dog before.
Listen to Pete, and take her to the vet, especially since it sounds like she hasn't acted this way before.
When you say she hasn't been herself for the last week, what do you mean? You said that she is lethargic & doesn't want to eat today, but how did you know there was something wrong before that?
Again, not a vet...however, have you thought about the idea she may have ingested something and got it lodged in her intestines or so forth? Get her to the vet!
Thanks guys it will be the vet tomorrow. It could be anything and there is no use in guessing. From your responses and concern I can see that the vet my only option.
Milt, the place to start is with her butt - you need to stick a thermometer in there ( I always tell my kids they need to take the same thermometer under the tongue)
The first thing (I always think) to do is start with the dogs temp. If the temp is normal and the dog is not eating then you need to keep a close eye on her. I have never had a blockage, twisted bowel, or pyo so I am not as parinoid as some. If the dog licking her back side - a serious indication of a pyo?
I have found that if it is a closed pyo they have not licked at their rears, just had the lethargy, elevated temp and drank alot. Just my own experience but I'm a bit paranoid.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I live in a high lyme area and the symptoms you describe could also be attributed to lyme. When you go to the vet be sure to raise that possibility.Good Luck
