Hello,
I saw the 'My dog is sick' topic and thought I would add some info since most of you guys said you had never seen stomach blockage. My 11 month old female pit bull started throwing up about once a day about a month ago.It would come and go every now and then after she would eat.She would throw up a white thick substance.Well after a while of this i noticed her starting to lose weight and it started getting worse like she would throw up three times after she ate but then it would go away for a few days. I had finally seen enough when she quit eating and decided to take her to the vet. He checked her over for everything and I mean everything pyometra included and found nothing. He gave me some kind of pills to kill bacteria in her stomach and sent us home. After I gave her all the medicine she had gotten worse and also had diarea with the vomitting so I took her back to the vet. He did an X-Ray on her stomach and said that he saw something in there but it wasn't something hard so he really couldn't be sure if it was the problem. I gave him permission to operate on her and after he was done he called me and said that he found a stick that was caught at the bottom of her esophagus!!!!I guess over time it had got leaves and all kinds of other stuff wrapped around it and it had eventually almost totally blocked her esophagus!! He said it was the hardest surgery in 22 years. This all happened about a week ago. She is doing great now and is gaining weight back like crazy! She also has alot more energy now.I hope this will help somebody out someday. I know next time she is sick I will not hesitate to take her to the vet. Oh yeah. Don't feed your dog sticks!! Stoner
Stoner,
Glad your is Pit doing well. I've learned a long time ago to never hesitate going to the vet. Most times it's not needed but why chance it. We all have to learn to read our dogs. Any sudden change needs to be looked into.
Again, glad everything is back to normal!
