Hello, I am new to this forum. I am looking to ad a new stud to my current breeding program. The dog we are looking at is named Illo von der Abfuhr. Is anyone familiar with this dog? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
The price is part of the reason I am asking for feedback from people who may be familiar with him. He is not a cheap dog, but has much experience. Jiri speaks the world of him and believes he would be an excellent addition to or program. You can see our females at Stalworth Kennels So perhaps this would give you an idea of what type of dogs we currently have (and what Illo would be bred with should we choose to take him on). Personally I am more familiar with the Czech breeding than the WG lines. Do you have any advise, comments, or information??? Any help is appreciated. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Not so brave really... this is why I'm asking around. He will have to be a truly exceptional individual for my consideration to turn into an actual purchase. I'm not there yet. Any thoughts or advise? Are you familiar with the dog at all?
You need an agreement on the pourchase of an older dog like this. There needs to be a semen check by a reputable Vet before the dog is shipped. The vendor knows you are buying him for breeding. He needs to agree to a semen check once the dog has beenin your kennel for a week or two.
Some dogs can breed until they are 10 or 11 - some cant be bred at 6. It does not matter how much the dog is sold for if he does not have enough semen.
There is a difference between having some semen and haveing enough semen to be consider as a stud dog.
In addition to what Ed has posted, keep in mind that some older dogs, especially dogs that have had a working career may have some arthritis that makes natural breeding difficult. Even if the dog has a suitable semen count for breeding, be aware that you may need to use artificial insemination. some of these dogs who were worked hard, will try to breed but due to old injuries and wear and tear from lots of courage tests and jumping just can't get the job done without help..
this may not be the case, but it's something we have seen in older dogs that were worked very hard previously.
