I understand some of how you feel, I just had something similar happen to a litter of 12 abondoned 2 week old puppies I rescued. I didnt have enough money for them to be on IV's for days and felt bad about that, but the options were freezing or starvation. You did good just by caring; I think that animals know when your pulling for them even when you cant save them.

i hope so.
so, just as i had given up on the chi too, i opened a can of sardines for him, and he is eating. For real eating, solid food. And, fighting the cats away from his fish. He actually just charged a cat that is more than twice his size. I started bawling.

If you could see yourself through our eyes, you’ll see that we have the utmost respect for your valiant efforts to save those puppies. Blame the people that allowed them to be born in the first place, it was them that had a total disregard for those poor puppies and denied them even so much as a healthy start in life.
You didn’t fail those puppies, you gave them the best chance you could to fight that disease and survive. You gave them the warmth, love and care they otherwise would not have known.
I for one would like to thank you, as a dog lover myself I can only imagine the emotional rollercoaster you have been through. Be kind to yourself, you deserve it.

Thank you all so much.
I have another question.
Pretty much everyone on my street has dogs, actually, everyone does. Their dogs however, are outside, often loose. The adult dogs are generally chained up. But 2 houses down, there are 2 maybe 5 month old pups, who get out of their fenced yard every single day.
Hang on, this is related...
they come in my yard, every day. Then back in their yards, and all over the steet.
I have asked the owners to get their dogs, several times, and have explained to them i have parvo in my yard ,and nothing.
Now I would love to say i was very concerned for those puppies, and in a way, i am, but i don't want them to get parvo, and bring it back in my yard. I don't want to deal with this again.
I have to get this stuff out of my yard before i get another dog, and before my friends can come visit again(they all have dogs). What can i do?

Dear Mallory: I am so sorry about your little puppies. I know you did your best. Here is something that may encourage you, I have had many animals sent to me by the Lord.... (birds, cats, dogs, one time I woke up and a donkey was in my front yard. My house is not easy to get too, it was quite unusual.) anyway,
one thing I have noticed about dogs especially, they know when you are trying to help them, they have a sense about it. I am thinking about your little pup who woke you up with a scratch, and wanted to snuggle. Maybe that was a way of letting you know You were the safe place for them, not them getting better. They felt you were trying to help them. I bet they were grateful, however an animal feels gratefulness. That is a great comfort to stranded animals, who are ill. I have seen that look in the eyes of many different animals, but especially dogs.
Sorry to hear of your heart being broken. You did your best, and I believe they appreciated it, even though they couldn't communicate like we do, they were grateful for... what others have told you, comfort and love and warmth.
God bless you
edit: you said you do not know why things like this happens, I don't know why but I do know that you were brought along at just the right time to provide what was needed for those little guys, their last days alive were filled with love and warmth, and that was the reason you got to find them and care for them.

If your neighbors are so incredibly stupid and irresponsible I wouldn't bother wasting another breath trying to get through to them.
Call animal control and explain the situation to them. I'd bet that when they hear "parvo" and "loose puppies" they'll think "epidemic" and jump right in.

Holy crap Mallory, I am so sorry about the pups.
Does the "bad" vet clinic know that all the puppies died? If not, I would still pursue the paperwork under the guise that you are still trying to treat the survivors.
Keep records of the date/time each puppy died and as Connie said, all the interaction with the vet clinic.
I agree with the suggestion to call animal control about the dogs that have been exposed to parvo. It helps if you can identify the dogs that have been in your yard and where they live.
If you still have the dad... (off the wall question) can you neuter him? I hope you keep him, it sounds like you are a way better home than where he came from?

the bad vet doesn't know. I talked to the mother of the people who own those pups, and she understands and will try to talk to her daughter. The daughter lives on one side of me, and the mom lives across the street.
I counted. Including my own, there are 15 dogs on my street(there are only houses on half the block, the rest is a business) so btw 4 houses, 15 dogs. (ha, most are pits, go figure)
Mine(adults) are the only vaccinated ones. And the only inside dogs. So that's alot of risk for the parvo to not go away, and she got that.
The dad will be neutered if i can keep him. He is amazing. Well behaved and such a lover. He melts all over me when i pet him. And, he has no problem being in a crate, so i don't even have to deal with crate training. I want him so badly, that is the only reason i got abigail, i wanted one of his pups. He is solid white(not deaf), black butterfly nose, maybe 55-60 lbs. A little too jowly but whatever.
Those people haven't been to look for him, it has been several days now. I admit, i have turned him nocturnal, only walking him at night, but hey, if they give up, and i can move soon, it won't matter.
anyway, i will see if the neighbors mom can talk to get daughter, if not, i will call animal control. I know pits are more prone to getting it(parvo) and dying where as other breeds could recover-and well, they are pits so.....
The chi will only eat tiny amounts of sardines, but i am elated. He also is getting some of his annoying spunk back, lunging at my cats....
