hahaha, ok, so the chi woke up, walked over to the big intact male pit bull, and peed on him. He then went back into his crate and went back to sleep. he's back!

One thing... be very careful with this male (father) - he could be considered stolen if the owners are indeed looking for him. If he had a collar/tags on, maybe you could call the owners and say you found him stuck in your garage, so you've been feeding him and he's really nice, and would they mind if you kept him?
I don't want you to get into any trouble.
And I hope you have some recourse against that awful vet.

he had no collar, and no tags. other than my own, there isn't a single dog with tags on this street. Most only have collars so the people have something to attach the chain to....
yes, i am convinced the chi will be just fine.
he was always pretty spunky. Actually, i wish he would stay this calm, but just not be sick. I never could handle yappie and springy..

So sorry to read that your puppies did not survive even after all your love and hard work.
If you were not there to care for these pups they would never have had a chance. The mother was being removed from her pups you did the only thing reasonable by taking over as their care giver. THANK YOU!
I only have one bit of advice at this point. I am unsure whether or not the legal path is the right way to continue.
Ignoring this problem however is probably not the way to go either. Writing a letter or better yet going to the Vet clinic and calmly and clearly telling the responsible Veterinarian your feelings would probably go further in creating a change in their practices and procedures than taking this matter into a legal battle.
My reasoning for saying this is because animals in any state that I know of are considered in the legal sense as being personal property. That being said you will probably not have much of a chance of any real satisfaction monetarily.
Malpractice should probably not be considered for several reasons which I won't go into here other than to say it would be difficult to prove in this case.
The most you could hope to achieve in my opinion is a lack of medical ethics concerning not notifying you promptly of your puppies death. Proving this however is probably not going to win you anything.
I hope this is a help to you and I wish you the very best.

so mr. chi has pulled through remarkably, and is eating more than just sardines!!!thank god, they smell so bad....
and he has quit sleeping all the time, he is running around, begging to go outside...pretty much his old self, but a little calmer.
should i just let him eat his normal food, or should i be trying to feed satin balls or something to get some weight back on him. He has lost about 3 lbs. He went from 9 to around 6. scary(for a dog so small, that's a 3rd)

i feed raw, though he really likes his EVO kibble i keep around for just in case.
Plus, a friend dropped off 3 huge bags of chicken soup puppy food, and canned food, for when the pups were still alive. He likes that.
so, should i try him back on raw(little interest other than sardines), stick with kibble, which he likes, but is really not that into having to crunch,or just canned, or satin balls.
too many choices!!!
i know the simple answer is to feed whatever he will eat, but it's not that simple.
He wants the kibble, but is having trouble eating it(even though the kibble is small). He wants to be free fed, and i just can't do that, with the other dogs and the cats, who can jump any baby gate and pen.
He used to love raw, but is now just not up for it. He is mildy interested in canned, but he won't finish it, and once it gets "old" he won't eat it.

EVO with broth or warm water plus sardines mashed in?
Canned food with sardines mashed in?
Also, several small fresh meals a day for a while.....
I know it sounds like catering..... I don't care. I don't blame you for wanting him to get a little of the lost weight back on.

i will try all that. the little booger is just so picky right now, being a typical small dog. My big dog just rediscovered some 4 day old ck necks she buried in her crate bedding, and ate with relish.
The chi doesn't want hour old canned food.
but now i am concerned with all the fish, he may or may not have a sardine bone caught in his throat, he is coughing, but the kind where u know something is stuck. But he is still eating and drinking and breathing. mannnnn, if it ain't one thing, it's another.
