Ana:
1.
- at the beginnig, karly had very mushy (even watery) GREEN stools.
- he got better with Dolthene (brown, but still very mushy).
- then he went on flagyl and lomotil which didnt help at all (with RC).
- turns out it s flora disturbance after stool sample. i had given karly ground boiled burger meat which gave him DARK BROWN WATERY MUSH (instead of getting better).
- after i took him to the vet's, they started treatment and put him back on RC. stools got better, more solid than after the dolthene, but still mushy. this is where vet thinks it s normal.
2.
apparently what he sees ARE logs.
3.
karly s been at the vet since thursday. eating 3cups of RC/day at 5months (instead 4). are 3days sufficient to get him gain weight?!
Michael:
you got it! that s what m going to do.
better yet, m gonna try to get a pic up every time he BMs. hopefully i can get your opinion on that.
Karly could have had Salmonella. I think your vet gave him ampicillin (maybe?) and that's a 1st choice for salmonella. If your vet worries about salmonella in pets it's possibly because he's had to treat pets that have it.
Salmonella causes TREMENDOUS dysentery in all kind of species and kills millions of critters and people worldwide every year. It's a true pathogen, a real bad guy. It can be a sudden killer or a low grade smouldering problem. Karly could have picked that up from birds at his kennel, on the street, anywhere -- maybe that's why he was thin and had diarrhea.
Dog food companies try really hard to formulate a diet that makes a nice poo, since folks really hate any mess in home or yard. Maybe the RC is good for now.
I'm glad he's better -- send poo shots!
No, that would be a separate bacterial culture, would probably not be something done in a vet office, would have to be sent out -- it can be hard to isolate, it's not something you peer thru a microscope and look at like a worm egg or Giardia. Those are HUGE compared to salmonella.
He's been treated for it-it's one of lots of "bugs" called "bacterial infection" or "bacterial enteritis".
I think you found a good doctor for your dog.
1. as they are
2. different pic
3. after i really barely touch them with a stone
i called the vet. he s gonna check them tomorrow morning as he comes to the kennel.
guys. i m really losing my cool. and m getting emotionally tired. m gonna take the link that ana sent me and consult with 2 different vets on the different tests we could try.
this isnt a simple "flora disruption" i can GUARANTEE THAT!
please guys. i really need your help.
should i start with a CBC? what are the steps i should take?
my head is going numb from overthinking. i cant get my logic straight.
when vet checked stool sample he s like its not parasites or viruses. it s bacterial.
check this out:
"Bacterial diseases include Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella varieties, and Escherichia coli, organisms that may be present without causing problems until Rocky is stressed by underlying disease or infestations or immune system weakness. C. jejuni and Salmonella can infect humans as well, so care must be taken to keep children away from sick dogs, to clean messes carefully, and to wash carefully after handling sick dogs."
m gonna ask that tomorrow.
Other folks can weigh in, but I think that stool that you sent a photo of looks like a dog who is recovering from some GI problem, and is on the way to normal -- pretty close to normal.
Try not to stew about the Salmonella, I shouldn't have mentioned it, this is a classic example of not making a diagnosis without seeing the patient. Your doctor has treated Karly, unless you eat the stool you are not at risk, even if he had Salmonella.
These agents are COMMON, present everywhere, on vegetables, in puddles on the street, ---as for E.Coli, it makes up 3/4 of every poop you and I make every day, it's "normal flora".
Sometimes these bugs just grab a hold and cause trouble.
