..and me...that is extraordinary of you Aaron -it truly is.
But before we go there....just curious:
Maria, TikkiHut Rescue told me they were waiting to hear from you yesterday afternoon (I had reached out to see if they would even be interested and got an almost immediate response) -what did the lady on the phone tell you?
This would also be good to know, regardless of where the dog ends up. An evaluation would go a long way for WHOMEVER is ultimately responsible for this dog, be it Maria, a rescue organization in your area, or an ad hoc group up here.
I am sorry if it's not clear. We still have her, so we are still working with her. I am not supposed to just lock her up and go live my life. We are being consistent, until ind a better option. What would you recommend? I don't want to just forget about her.
No, I never said she deserves to be killed. that's insanity, she is a dog for a strong person, but where am I gong to get this person:-).
Okay. You were looking for a strong person willing to take the dog and not kill her.
You've just been given an extremely generous offer of taking the dog off your hands, working with her, helping her, etc... and your response is "you just want to do it to make me look bad!!"
I would have expected you to fall on your knees in gratitude. Aaron is NOT offering this to make you look bad - his concern is for the dog.
I don't think there is a person on this forum who thinks you and this dog are a good match. Giving another tip on how you might be able to work with this animal is futile - it is simply not meant to be.
Hopefully it won't be your ego which prevents this dog from being rescued.
What would you recommend? I don't want to just forget about her.
I do not feel comfortable recomending anything over the internet in a situation like this. You have said several times that you are afraid of her. It is next to impossible to successfully work with a dog that you are afraid of.
You need a local hands on assesment from an expert who can see first hand what is happening and recommend a solution.

Begin by calling TikiHut and getting the eval.
They may offer to work with her from there, and help you.
They may have someone there who can take her and home her.
The evaluation will be useful if I have to take her, it will help find the best foster home for her, and help me approach her successfully from the get-go.
I have adrenal disease and K+ deficiency, as a result of my illness, both those things can kill a man when sudden stress occurs, and she sent me into adrenal crisis when she got aggressive.
regarding what "personality" i should have. Sadly, I am easily upset and generally emotional because of the way my illness is going. Even if i don't speak of it, animals know. It is an endocrine (thyroidal) disease with severe resistance to medication,
I would think this alone would make this dog not right for you. If your body is going in/out of "fight or flight", Epinephrine pumping, could certainly cloud how the dog perceives you. I am sure the added stress of the situation is not favorable to your health.
I have had three Akita's in my family, two more owned by friends. All were rescues, and two came with worse issues than you describe. I hope you find someone familiar with the breed to evaluate her. The rescues Aaron mentioned are a good start.
