My Collie's done that since she was a puppy--drove my mom nuts <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> But she's never hurt the carpet in the almost 9 yrs she's been doing it.
I am new and don't know much but I can with all certainty say that my 11 year old collie does that and has for the 6 years I have had her. She does it anywhere on the floor that she decides to lay down. She doesn't have a bed because ANYTHING left on the floor, she will pee on (motivates us to pick up our clothes, I can tell ya). But she has never hurt the carpet.
