OOOps Mr. Jones, above was meant to be a Private message (not that there's anything private about the question) but certainly not expecting an answer on the board. Please message me on your experience if you're so inclined.
Hi Brock,
My WGSD came from under a trailer that I had to crawl under to get. He had nerve issues from the start. Fortunatley he immediatley latched on to my wife and son. I started crate training immediatley and got the help of a trainer. He is fearful of strangers and will always be so but thru obedience training and agility training(gotta give a GSD a job)plus the help of this board and my SchutzHund club, he is quite managable. He can do a backyard Bh routine only because he knows everybody in the group. I learned alot from him and he is a member of the family and a good watch dog but frankley I'll never get a white or American line again. I have a Czech/DDR puppy now and it is a world of difference and it is much more pleasant to be able to concentrate on training and not have to deal with "issues". My next dog will be from working lines only.
I have worked with some white GSD's and found training to be no big deal. Mind you, they were raised in homes, not dragged from under a trailer after who knows what happened to him. (I commend you for that Dennis)
They had dominant/insecure personalitys but learned well. I thought they acted like GSD's, although they were not driven to do the work like a GSD should be. I would put them in the same catagory as a American showline GSD.
I did have one in the early 80's that was trained as a PPD. This was probably the "one" that occurs in a million. The dog was exceptional, but had 1 testicle. The guy nuetered him around two. I would have bred that dog at least once to see if he could put something back into the "breed." The positives were everything, negatives the undropped testicle. But hey, what the heck do I know? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I knew someone who had an albino shepherd--I never had a chance to meet him, but she said that he was trained in protection, and huge. She also said he had his championship, which was when I started to wonder because as far as I know, not even albinos can get titled.
Just my limited experience.... we had one come for training. She was a 4 month old white...probably BYB...who knows. Although she was a cutie pie, she was very nervy. But super intelligent. She learned near-perfect attention heeling, sit/down/stay and a bunch of cute pet tricks that the owner wanted in alittle less than 2 months. The pitfall to this litter girl was her senstivity to new situations and to medium level corrections. Nice pet dog though.
They still, put them to sleep right away when it happens and most of the time they dont breed the carrier. I saw 7 years ago a white puppy from working line. The owner kept it as a pet, never bred the dogs egain. It is pretty unusual to keep the "unwanted" color these days.
