Thanks, Scott, for posting this. I too saw these emails. I find them interesting. I never believe a word written or spoken by Shields or his sister (Patty) because they just can't seem to tell the truth. However, I know next to nothing about computers and hacking, so I guess anything is possible.
Here's a small sampling of what I do know for sure:
1. "Captain" Scott Shields is not a Captain of anything. He was never in the fire service, police service or U.S. Coast Guard and neither were his dogs (his dog Theo is an honorary mascot for the Coast Guard Auxiliary). Neither is he a licensed boat Captain.
2. I have personally verified a lot of the information on the
http://www.scottshieldsfraud.com web site. This information (such as court documents, etc.) can easily be obtained by visiting the courthouse in Stamford, CT or through the internet search functions for various court systems in CT and NY. Since I live in CT, it was easy for me to do this. It is true that Mr. Shields and his sister have routinely rented various residences and never paid the rent (and then were subsequently evicted). My husband and I personally know one of the people who rented to him (and was never paid a dime of rent).
3. Contrary to what Mr. Shields tells reporters and donators, he did not respond to the Oklahoma City Bombing nor the earthquakes in Turkey. Mr. Shields and his dog Bear also did not find any live victims at the WTC following 9/11.
4. Neither his dog Bear nor Theo were/are trained or certified search and rescue (live or cadaver) dogs. I have a copy of a radio interview where Shields claims they were/are.
5. Although he resides in New Jersey, his vehicle is registered in Wisconsin and has Wisconsin plates.
6. His dog Theo is aggressive and attacked a NYPD canine at a search. Although Mr. Shields promised to pay the vet bill, he never did.
7. Mr. Shields is not (contrary to photographs of him wearing an EMT shield) a certified EMT.
8. Mr. Shields does not have a job. He likely lives off the money that well-meaning individuals donate to the foundation. He also has never filed a Form 990 with the IRS for his foundation.
Like I said, this is a small sampling of the things I've personally verified about him. There's more, but some I can't post because its part of on-going investigations, and if I posted every fraudulent thing he's done I would have to write a book. I admit that I tell everybody I know about this guy. At a minimum, having an untrained person like Shields at a disaster puts me and the people I am searching for in grave danger. Also, in light of the facts, I believe anybody who continues to support him falls into the same category he does - a fraud.
I originally didn't want to post all of this here because I didn't think this was the appropriate forum to go into all this detail. That's why I referenced the
http://www.scottshieldsfraud.com web site when I intially posted about this guy. However, since Mr. Shields claims that particular website is fraudulent itself, I thought it would be important for me to post a few things here that I absolutely can prove.
I have legitimate proof in the form of court documents, dates, names, etc. for all the above posted information. Anybody who has questions or doubts can contact me via my email at
