I have a question that is somewhat along this same behavior. My 3yr old female is a very confident animal. She barks at strangers, never gives ground, unless commanded. Our 6mth male will bristle all over, bark, and then look to the female like "is this right?" Is he looking for back-up
it is really hard to tell with out seeing him, but if i were to guess by what you said, he is doing exactly what it looks like he is doing. he is looking at the older dog for approvel. your older dog is the alpha out of them. the younger dog doesn't want to step on his toes so he makes sure it is ok with the older dog plus he looks to the older dog as a trainer. he is looking to make sure he is doing it right. it is like when i train/brake horses. sometimes you tie one that needs brakeing to one that is really good. the good one will teach the "green" one. same thing here.
Thank you, Jason! I thought that's what was happening, But you never know especially with pups
Not a problem. remimber not to push the pup to hard. it sounds like he is on the right track. keep up the good work and if you have questions, ask. the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked and ends up ruining your dog
