Are there any other tips I should know, I'm going to try to do it within the next 10 mins or so. Should I use a cotton ball to put the alcohol, or should I just pour it on?
Is this the first time that you've seen a tick? ( count me amazed.....I've been taking them off my own body since I was in my teens, I'm always amazed when someone hasn't had one on thier own body yet...)
Haha, yeah I'm a city boy, and this is my first dog. I have done plenty of outdoor stuff, but I have never gotten or seen any ticks...Thanks for the links!
Will, out here in NM they get as big as dimes When I was a kid we used to shoot at them with BB guns
Glad it's just a tick! Not to scare you, but watch him carefully over the next few weeks for any signs of illness. I have had several ticks, like Will (hey, when you lie with dogs... and been ok, but Lyme's disease is an easy one to miss or misdiagnose, and can do some damage in the meantime.
The most common ones on dogs are deer ticks, if I remember correctly.
And let me tell ya, the first time that you see one on *yourself*, especially on a "delicate" area....be prepared for some rapid pulse rate!
Yeah, they're deer ticks, big Lyme's carriers. However, Lyme's infection is not guaranteed even if you're bitten by an infected tick, so don't panic unnecessarily; just be aware and keep an eye on him. My personal favorite was shaving a rather plump one off the back of my knee...lots of blood and I hadn't cut myself...imagine my surprise. They're fun to put in plastic bags and pop. Oh, the fun to be had with ticks! City boys miss ALL the fun!
I knew what you meant, Will . Thankfully, that's never happened to me... Try finding them in your hair...a little bit gross...I guess your ticks have to make do with..uh..whatever.
