Judy, I forgot to add that anything that you put on his feet that is salty or has alcohol if the skin ie broken or very irritated will sting when applied. I have a bottle of something home that I can't remember the name of...but I will look when I get home & pm you with the name. It has some zylocaine on or something like that in it that numbs the itch & doesn't sting when sprayed on. And it is OTC available in better or high end pet stores.
If it were allergies to something other than the environment, wouldn't he be itchy other places? He doesn't scratch anywhere else, just his two front paws. Not even his back paws bother him! That's what's strange to me.
I have given a tab am & pm. That was the dose when my dog was about 35 lbs. You could give 2 at a time I guess...Gunnar is about 60lbs the same as my female. I still only give her 1 tab & find that that usually helps. If it doesn't help try 2 at the next 12 hour time. You could most likely give it more freequently, but I don't. I stick with the am & pm. In fact I usually only give it one or the other most of the time. I don't use it often but have on occasion if I feel it will give some releif. I have never seen any problems with the dogs when given.
It would seem so, but I have allergies to certain foods, cleaners, etc. Some of the allergens only effect my hands. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Others make me sneeze <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> Could dogs have symptoms like these <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I think they call it "localized symptomatic reaction"
He is deceiving...he didn't look that big. I thought that most of the size was his plush coat. Then you could use 2tabs. But I'd try 1 fist & see if that does any good. If not then try 2. I would go with the lowest dose that shows results. Good luck. Let us know what the vet says.
He is deceiving but everyone thinks he weighs more than he does. He was 80 lbs back in the beginning of March so I'm assuming he is no more than 80 to 85 lbs. right now.
I just gave him the Benadryl (1). Thanks for the help.
Hmmm, I guess it is probably allergies but I wanted to clarify that it's not between his toes. It's always the same place, now on both paws. How do I explain this...if you are face to face with the bottom of his paw, and his toes were at say the 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00 position, the spot that's always itchy is at 5:00. Hope that made sense.
Anyway, this all started when he was about 7 months old. Can they start allergies that young?
