I had problems with wheat allergies when I was using Flint River for my dogs. I have since switched to Life's Abundance all natural foods for all my animals. I have had no issues with this food.
My cats were put on SD Natures Best for a bags worth and that was about the worst mess I have ever delt with between the vomiting and other issues
I still consider going with the raw diet - have to finish the book Leerburg sent with the puppy I bought from them. I am really pleased with Life's Abundance right now.

I'm currently researching dog food alternatives. However, until I'm finished, we have been feeding Science Diet : Nature's Best as well. The gas this is producing in my rottie is something that I'm sure the propulsion lab at NASA would be VERY interested in. Horrid.
If you do not have time to do your own food prep, try "buffdog". There is a link on pulldoggies.com. This is a high Protein food designed for working (and I mean HARD work) dogs that require a ton of protein in their diets. My young one has been on it for 6 months of weight training now and has put on about 15lbs approx of lean muscle. my other dog is on ProPlan performance as its protein content is just under 23% and she is retired. Check out buff doggie and don't worry about the cost. It is worth it...
Does anyone here have any info or opinions on a food I've recently heard about called "Great Life". If so, how would you compare it to Eukanuba. I see that a lot of the people here are feeding a raw diet. I don't know much about this type of diet or how you would implement one. Would this type of diet serve well for a working police dog? I recently started trying Great Life and it seems to be pretty decent but it's expensive, so I've been feeding half Great Life and half Eukanuba. I'm trying to learn more about the benefits of the raw diet compare to what I'm using now.
Never heard of great life..
Any one know anything about a brand called Nutro. It's getting pretty popular out here in california, and they say that it is the healthiest dog food on the market today. Big claim, but their willing to back it..
WHEN I SEE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, I'D BE WILLING TO DIE PROTECTING IT.
Before I switched over for tummy troubles, I was using Nutro Max for some time...Needed a higher protein for my girls, but should be decent for most purposes...My girlfriend has been using it with her Dobies for quite sometime with great results...I have no complaints from it and it is much less expensive for the Science diet/Eukanuba garbage....
