hey chris, where are you at in st. louis? i live in st. charles county (o'fallon).
we got our pup at 9 wks and she cried throught the night 1 time and that was all! (i think we lucked out) and we had the crate in the bedroom. before 10 wks she was holding it all night long. i'm sure every dog is different. now she doesn't make noise at all and i sleep in peace!
thanks all. in the past i have only purchased adult dogs to work. now because i have young kids i broke down and bought a puppy this time around, now i remember why i never wanted one. too much work.
I love puppies, my current pup isn't even 8 months old yet and I'm already planning my next one Send me your puppy and I will raise him... no guarantee's you'll see him back though
Beth's post hits home. It's like having a baby and getting up in the middle of the night, several times. Having my pup reminds me of that, something long forgotten
Difference between baby dogs and baby people, baby people can't walk yet - thank God! - and get into refrigerators, bathrooms, closets (in other words, every time you open a door!).
Soon you'll be able to tell the difference in the whining, between the potty whine and the wanting attention whine. My 14 wk pup had a case of diarrhea and let me know when he needed out, which I appreciated very much So I'd open the crate, ask if he wanted potty outside, he'd run to the back door.
Please don't laugh at this old trick, but we raised guide dog puppies for years and every new 8-week old went to bed in the puppy crate with an a ticking wind-up clock wrapped in a towel on the top of the crate. The puppies had never been alone before and I believe the ticking was comforting. Just like some brand new babies like to hear water running, it sounds like home. Leaving music on low volume helped too.
