Susan,
Have you ever seen the Pandas, I never knew they existed until recently. Weird to think they are GSD

Only on the panda breeders' website. They along with all the other wierd colors are the stuff of nightmares. It would be very stupid to buy a GSD because of color, or to buy from a breeder who breeds for color.
I agree. And the sad thing is that on the breeders web site I saw that sells the panda color, has a waiting list for people who want to buy and she sells them for $800.
Well any time you narrow it down to a certain type, before you've even looked at any dogs, you've already weeded out what could've been a more suitable pup.
Showdog people think that way, and breed that way. It's already enough of a challenge to breed for working qualities, and they want both. But when you want both, statistically, one side has to suffer. It's like a see-saw effect.
You can google Panda Shepherds on the net -- they're mis-marked with patches of white (and maybe blue eyes sometimes?) it's a frowned upon color-pattern mutation <:-(
Thanks, I did that. Weird mutation. The only thing I can say to that is...if German Shepherds ain't broke...why fix them? I'll be plenty happy with my bi-color!
I also wanted a sable when I first started looking for a pup. I was offered two pups by my breeder...and I chose the black and tan one because he had better working potential. I haven't regretted my decision, and now I actually like the looks of the black and tan.
The puppy the breeder recommended to me happened to be sable, so that is what I bought. Personally, I like the black and tan coloring better. But I think I may be in a minority as people constantly stop us on our walks to ask about him and tell me they think he is a beautiful dog.
