Well heres an update on Kanes rash. He went to the vet today... for his rabies shot, and also for the rash. The rash was from an allergy from the flea bites. They gave me Prednisone for the itching and frontline to take care of the fleas. My poor baby DID have fleas! So I just put the frontline on him and he already had one pill for the itching around noon and another at bed time. Now obviously Im going to have to do the house again... he has them... so theyre back in the house... and Monday Im having somebody come and give an estimate to spray the yard. The vet told me that it would take about 2 days for the frontline to take care of the fleas... so should I do my house tonight or tomorrow... or should I wait until a few days so that I know that the frontline is working on him? Seems like a circle... bomb the house, no fleas... dog brings them back in and vise versa.
Also they kept asking me over and over if I was sure that he had all his shots... which I know now that I had read so much on the board... that they are very pushy about over vaccinating.
So I guess thats my only question... should I do my house again asap, or wait until the frontline has worked? I hate geting bitten, but I dont see the point in bombing if hes just going to bring in more fleas tomorrow.
Also, toss a few oldfashoned flea collars in your vac bag. Anything the vac picks up will be taken care of . Be VERY careful with the prednisone. A few years ago my daughters puppy had puppy strangles and was put on pred. The pup started spitting up blood from an ulcerated stonach caused by prolonged use. She called the vet and he told her to just stop the pred. NOT! Thankfully, she called me first. I re directed her to my vet of 30 yrs. It has to be slowly reduced in quantity over a week or so. If not, the dog (or human) can go into into insulin shock.
Wow thanks for the advice! The instructions on the bottle are as follows...
1 tab every 12 hours for 5 days, ten 1 tab every 24 hours for 7 days, then 1 tab every 48 hours until gone. He took 2 pills yesterday and has 18 left so he has 14 doses left. I hope that sounds about right?
Also the flea collar thing... I wouldve never thought of that, thanks again!

Chastity, I would take care of the fleas immediately in the house and yard, and then be sure to keep a topical treatment(such as the Frontline Plus)applied monthly year round. If you are in an area where it is cold in the winter you may be able to skip the dead of winter months... This will prevent reinfestation and take care of any stray fleas or ticks picked up in your travels....Good luck!
I HATE FLEAS!!! I know how horrible they are to deal with sometimes!
