Oh, I hope he is better soon. Could this be something environmental, that he is getting into, or has gotten into somehow? The bottled water is a good idea. Maybe just stick to bottled water for him to drink.
I took Tux to the vet again today. He wants to do some tests Monday...The lab he uses doesn't have weekend hours. I will take him toanother vet in the morning because he is really sick tonight I don't think we need any more tests. I have read online and think he has ICH cainin hep. He wasn't vecinnated b/c every time I took him to the vet he was not healthy enough for the vacciane. Now I realize I should have tried harder. He is very thirsty won't eat has a blue ring around his eyes a eye discharge and now he is having a hard time walking,. because his belly is tender. So my question is this....
The info I read online said it runs a 5-10 day course and it has been about 9 days. Do the symtoms get worse and the dogs dies or does it run its course and then the dog slowly gets better after the "virus" has run its course? basically do we support him until the "virus runs its course or is the damage done and he will never recover. One website said that dogs who survivie regain weight very well so I am assuming that if we can sustain him through out this he will slowly recover.
Debra, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your little guy. I don't know anything about the illness your dog has, so all I can say is I'm sorry y'all are going through this. Sounds like you're doing the right thing with support treatment. Good luck & blessings to y'all.
Well little tuxz didn't make it. I just think he wasn't intended long for this world. Looking back I think he was born sick and we gave him a pretty good life.
I found him impossible to house train I think he had liver problems from day 1. I took him to the vet yesterday and he gave him IV fluids. I took him home and few hours later it was clear he was dying. I held him in my lap and he passed very quietly.
My older 2 girls are very sad they are 6&8 years old. Tux was their birthday present.
OK here is a new quetion. I called my sister..she mentioned a few weeks ago that they have 3 dogs and 3 is too many. They have a 4 month old puppy and they know they have to find a new home for him but have been putting it off. I will be back in the states for Christmas and can bring a small dog back as carry on as long as I do all the paperwork required. He loves kids and plays well with them is very healthy and house trained. So my opinion is it is the best of all situations. He is still a puppy and needs a good loving home and my sister has already "test driven " him and he is still young enough to bond well with my kids.
As I said before I think Tux was always sick. He tolerated the kids but would snap at them (I think he was in pain and couldn't tolerate their attention) Before he got sick I truly wondered if he would ever be a good fit for our family. I think if he would have been healthy he would have been the perfect dog, and we did love him. I meen no disrespect to the little guy but that is jsut the way is was.
My husband says NO WAY it is too soon. We plan to stay in Romania for 3-4 years and we won't travel back for vacation for 18 months. I won't buy another dog here and I don't think it is fair to ask the kids to wait 18 months for another dog. So what do ya'll think? Please your honest opinion.
First let me say that I am sorry you lost your pup to an obviously unknown illness. I know you tried hard to find out what was wrong with him and made numerous vet visits.
Personally Debra, far be it from me to say anything or advise against your husband's wishes. I guess I'm not sure why you're asking virtual "strangers" for their opinion on what is obviously a personal matter, and after your husband has already given you his opinion. I would think that would count for more than anything anyone else has to say.
Meanwhile, I would read everything there is to read here on Ed's site, his puppy articles as well as posts by others on puppies, feeding raw, potting training, as well as reading over some of the answers to your previous posts about Tux. That would give you a real jump on issues and questions for whenever you get your next pup. Someone mentioned giving bottled water to Tux previously, don't know if you did that, but would advise the same thing for the next pup. I give bottled water to my pup and I live in the US.
I thought that is what the forum was for. I was trying to get get other peoples opinions about how long to wait until we bring a new dog into our family. THEN My husband and I will decide together.
I personally like to get another animal straight away, but I know of people who can't until they've finished their greiving. This is such an emotional issue that I'll just say, go with your hearts & get a new dog when you feel ready.

Sorry, Debra, didn't mean to make it sound like a lecture. You posted that you had already talked with your husband about it, that's what I was addressing.
