Mike,
I recall reading your side of the story a while ago thinking how dedicated you were and committed to get this pup,I thought, man a breeder should appreciate a guy like you, coming back to get another pup, patient, willing to go the extra miles to get your pup.etc.. And now I cannot believe the outcome for you. It's a shame.Mike, if I had a litter of GSD I would gave you a puppy, I know you would care for him like I would. I wish you luck.

Hello again,
I have received the results of the necropsy from the vet today.Milo died of a fungal infection called Acute Falmitating Blastomyces, which I'm told is one of the strongest infections out there.Apparently picked up outside by stagnant water. The vet said he'd never seen this hit an animal with such strength, and Milo never stood a chance.Even if we had found it immediately he would not have survived.Strangely though the vet said he had never heard of any cases of this in Illinois, mostly in Wisconsin. What bothers me is that Milo hasn't been anywhere except the back yard for the last 2 months. So I'm concerned for my 4yr. old.The vet said it would be rare for Mac to get it,but not impossible.I'm told Milos immune system wasn't strong enough to fight it,however if Mac should get it the treatment would be about 6 weeks and most likely survivable. For now all we can do is steralize all bowls,toys,etc... and try to find whatever it was in the backyard. My neighbors all have dogs and I've already informed them of the situation. As far as Mac is concerned, all we can do for now is take his temp. regularely until 2 to 3 weeks passes and we can get him tested.Apparently that is the incubation period.I will try to find out more about this, but if anyone has heard of this I would like to hear from you.Thank you,Mike and Lori
Michael, I'm sorry you lost your friend Milo. My thoughts are with you.
I pray Mac stays well.
You may already be supplementing his diet, but if not you might consider giving powdered Vitamin C (Ed sells it here on his site) to help strengthen Mac's immune system. Ask them to send it USPS Priority Mail, it's faster than UPS.
My sympathies to you and yours.
Michael, I'm so sorry about your puppy. He was blessed to have family like you.
I do have a question about the Acute Falmitating Blastomyces. This is certainly a question after-the-fact, but is there any possibility the puppy could have been exposed to the fungus while still at the breeder and harbored or carried the fungus til Nov.

Acute Fulminating Blastomyces
So far, not in anything I've seen. (There turned out to be a lot to read, and it's slow going.) I've seen incubation period estimates of as little as 8 hours and as long as 3 days, but nothing about any long incubation periods.
