Ray, a title means nothing unless you know what the dog is capable of. If you're just looking at the title then you're paying thousands of dollars for a dog who might or might not do the job you have in mind for him. I personally don't care if you want to get started on a dog that already knows how to do it vs. from the ground up, that's not the issue. The fact is, someone can get a SchH III on a Lab. So buy for the dog, not the title--why is that insulting to you? That means evaluate the dog itself, not just whether it's a SchH III or not.
To be fair I started with a GSD puppy, and he's only a little over a year old and doing fairly well even when I'm not getting as much help as I want. He'll be ready for titling soon. The training itself has little to say about the value of the dog. He and my crap byb dog can do the same exercises.

We have Schut III dogs that will protect their handlers for real, I have a Sch.I that will protect me for real, where do you get that all Schutz. dogs won't protect for real?
I have seen seen K9 police dogs that wouldn't protect their handlers, would I say every k9 dog....... NO.
Titles mean nothing when you are buying a titled dog ,unless you see that dog in person do all 3 phases and passes all 3.
We have seen Schutz titled dogs that looked as if they had never been on a leash and came from germany with high scores. It all depends on the dog ,pedigree, foundation ect.to say that he will or not protect you.And best of all put the dog to the test. There is nothing wrong with someone that wants to buy a titled dog, just know what to look for.

Ill agree title can mean nothing, as little as I know about all this I totally agree. I looked at 5 dogs lately, SCH1 SCH11 and
they must have been titeled at HUEY,DEWY and LOUIE school for laughs They were something to see The first guy was going to show me OBD/training so he says watch this; looks at the poor dog
says plotz, the dog just looks at him
again PLOTZ\\\PLOTZ\\\\\ finally the guy says, let me get my prong
collar, I said you need to get your drivers license because your
leaving here and that was one of the better ones But on the bright side I think I may have located a guy in MAINE with a good prospect ill keep ya posted?????????????

Mr. Tallan,
I admit to just skimming through these posts and my following comments may be well off the mark but...
Why in the world would you want a dog that some one else has developed?
Is it to be a trophy to be marched out to 'impress' folks? Is it to be in a kennel to be gestured at? Do you intend to actually work the dog?
I probably missed the point of your post completely.

The easiest way iknow to reply is as follows.
You live in your house correct,But im shure
it would have been more rewarding if you had
built it yourself,or to be a great race-car driver
does that mean you have to build the car from the ground up?
I live in a great house, and have won several races in my racecar yet i didnt accomplish either alone
Good points and true, yet if you start with a good Sch 3 GSD, would you have the handler skills necessary to work the dog and maintain his training. I'm thinking it's rather like letting me, who has never driven past 85 mph, get in your racecar and drive in a race at 200 mph. Wouldn't you agree that before you would let me, you would want me to have the training required to go at top speeds? If I had a Sch 3 dog, it would not be sold to anyone who doesn't know the necessary skills to handle the dog, and don't agree with anyone trying to sell you one. Of course I could be wrong about this, maybe the skills can be learned quickly, on the spot so to speak, but I doubt it. It seems much more complex than that from my readings on this forum.
If I'm wrong, I'd like to hear from the professionals on this forum so I can eat my words

Ray, if it's for your own security, be careful when buying anything labeled a "protection dog" off the internet. Most of these dogs are equipment oriented only and way over-priced. The fact is, the majority of the general public knows very little about what they're buying, making them easy targets. They're just waiting for someone with a lot of money to come around who's ignorant about protection dogs.
