This doesn't apply this late in the game, but I thought I'd share for future reference...
Long story short...my dog ate a piece of nicotine gum.
Nicotine is highly poisonous for dogs and I freaked and called the vet's. It was after hours, but I did get this tip:
Make the dog drink 1 Tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. If after 10 minutes nothing has happened, make him drink 1 Tablespoon more. It worked like a CHARM! Few minutes later, there was some minor heaving and viola, bright green gum on the floor! It was a really handy tip!
As a warning to anyone that might try this: Some poisons are NOT supposed to be vomited (probably like bleach which would corrode the esophagus), so check before you use this remedy. Secondly, hydogen peroxide is sort of poisonous itself (like epicac syrup for people...think i spelled that right?) so make sure the dog throws it up. Don't just give one tablespoon and then give up if no vomiting.
Like I said, I don't think this helps your situation with bleach, but it's REALLY handy if it's something that you just have to get out of the dog immediately! I've been meaning to post this and this emergency reminded me.
Really hope your dog is okay. Please keep us posted!

Just to emphasize something in Amber's post: The peroxide is for NON-CAUSTIC substances which you want the dog to vomit, but not for something that will cause burning, etc., again on the way up.
Say the dog has eaten something possibly toxic to dogs that you want him to vomit before it's digested...... that's the peroxide thing. Example: grapes; chocolate; pills.....
A fluid that was caustic in the mouth and in the throat and esophagus and so on... you don't want it to go that same route in the same form; you want it diluted and "unconcentrated" asap.
I know you said this, Amber; I'm posting it again so the O.P. doesn't read the first part of your excellent hint to have on hand without reading to the end.

DEFINATELY DO NOT MIX BLEACH AND PEROXIDE!!!

No, we know they're NOT good together! Maybe I shouldn't have posted this hint about the hydrogen peroxide in this thread, I think it's being misinterpreted, and Connie I understand why you reiterated!!...I certainly don't want anyone to try it willy-nilly! I suggested it as a "since we're on the subject of helpful hints concerning ingestion" thing, but specifically didn't say to use this for this bleach situation. Now I see how things can get confused in postings!
Angelique...just curious...do you know why they said not to dilute with water? Seems odd to me to keep it concentrated.

PS for Angelique...please don't think that my all caps in the beginning of the post was yelling at you!!! It was only so that people just skimming the posts would see that you shouldn't mix beach and peroxide (unless you want to be really, really blonde! :grin

That's if the patient is unconscious, convulsing, or already vomiting.
For swallowing bleach, whether dog or human:
QUOTE:
Seek immediate medical help.
If the chemical is on the skin or in the eyes, flush with lots of water for at least 15 minutes. (This also means in the mouth.)
If the chemical was swallowed, immediately give the person water or milk, unless instructed otherwise by a health care provider.
DO NOT give water or milk if the patient is having symptoms (such as vomiting, convulsions, or unconsciousness) that prevent swallowing. END from http://www.nlm.nih.gov

we used peroxide to induce vomiting also, when our dogs got into some rat poison, but i also know that inducing vomiting is bad in certain situations. when my wife called me up and told me about it and how she was making them vomit, i was like "wait, did it say on the package to do that? you don't do it unless you're sure"... but it turned out she'd already been on the phone to the vet. puke it all up, $200 for some vitamin k shots and some pills, and the problem was over.
in certain situations diluting with water is good, in others it isn't. i wasn't about to reply to this thread in it's early stages (i saw it without any replies, seconds after it was posted) because i honestly had no idea. from memory with things like bleach you can mix things with it that are the opposite pH to neutralize it and stop the burning - when the burning is exterior! however, i imagine the gas buildup from the reaction could cause the dog further injury if the reaction takes place in the stomach.
this is why i kept my mouth shut initially, i don't know anything about the poison information centers in the US, much less in ireland, our first call was to our vet.
OP, i figure that someone was mopping or something similar, puppy saw the bucket and thought "oh boy, fresh water"? this same scenario has crossed my mind several times when people mop here, and is definitely a wakeup call. our one dog destiny used to enjoy dunking her entire head in the water buckets, that thought sends a chill up my spine.
i hope the little girl is doing better.
