Hey beth i think it true it does come down to the pedigree/lines...I think in North America people prefer show lines over working line w/ re: to boxers
I own a boxer named Achilles and my trainer luv his temperment and he says he has great working lines and luvs to work. has that great fight spirit in him... I'll attempt to get a picture up in the next day or 2...His a golden brindle (euro blood lines)
Well HI RENEE!!!! Nice to *see* you again even from afar!
Angelique, I really love watching these dogs work. Through the coming year we plan to do a better job updating pictures on the Joliet Schutzhund web site. Of course once there is result news of trials for any of our training partners, we will be updating that as well. LOL - I know several dogs will be ready for trial in the coming season. We will be keeping our fingers crossed that all the new handlers can keep their nerves in check!
Hey Ed - that's a fun pic of Achilles!! Sorry I missed your posts earlier when I responded to Angelique and Renee. I'll blame that on "not enough coffee yet."
Our trainer is having a great time with these dogs too. I could see many situations where a nice working line boxer would be an excellent choice for a SchH sport work dog. LOL - one of our training participants Sue is working with a show line male. Sue is maybe pushing 5'2". Her and Glenn's dog Truman is as tall as her when he's up on his hind legs. There have been several times when Sue has looked at Ken or Demetrius and said "I want a boxer female!"
now thats funny...Ya Achilles is a good dog but is too much dog for me to handle on my own...sooo strong headed and tough as nails...it's good though wouldn't trade him up for anything...truly a great dog and great w/ my 1 year old daughter...If time allows will try to get him in SchH 1 my trainer who been doing this forever hasn't see a great boxer work line in a very long time..he still jokes w/ me that GSD is still the best w/ Mals a near 2nd lol
Ya he pretty much has his lip caught inside his tooth, if's funny grabing his tongue and then realize its been dry for a few hours...i luv that pic too lol
As far as Schutzhund goes the boxer is the #2 dog in Germany. The nose is a flaw for working but that has nothing do do with tracking. I know of several FH2 boxers. The nose becomes a factor based on weather conditions, the Boxer doesnt work well when its very hot. There is not a nerve issue when it comes to the boxer breed as any dog there may be isolated cases. I have 3 Boxers that I train in Sch my 3 year old male has his Sch1. I have a 3 year old Bitch with her BH and AD. I really feel only Boxer people are qualified to answer some questions not someone who never seen a boxer work. By the way I have a working litter on the ground and there are many breeders of working Boxers in the U.S so your right youare wrong stick to speaking on Shepards. There are 3 generations of working titles on both sides of all of my dogs pedigrees.
Hi Beth I didnt see any of your post and none of the other post after the Boxer cant work due to his muzzel. Thanks for the pub of my dogs. I think the biggest problem in the dog world people get used to there favorite breed and are not open minded to the other working breeds. I have owned a Shepard, Dobe, Boxer, and a Rotti. I enjoy all of them and all of them have different advantages over the other. The Boxer is my choice because i feel he has a never say die attitude. Hopefully at training today I'll get some good pics and figure out how to post them on this site. Hello Rene how are those pups doing maybe you should informed the board that you had a litter whos sire has his Sch2 FH1 or is it FH2.
