Yogurt -- of course! Duh on me. Natural yogurt with live cultures (and no sugar, of course) would seem to be a goes-without-saying trial, since it's a probiotic anyway.
I'm going to mention that to my friend with the e.p.i. dog.

John , connie , anyone, if you are out of Yogurt, what would be the next best thing to use in it's place?
For dogs, I don't think there's a replacement that you would have handy.
That is, a repacement of probiotics containing live bacillus (yogurt-type cultures) would work, but that's probably not something you have on hand either.
The thing about yogurt is that it's a digestive aid (the cultures in it) and also it's one form of dairy that dogs usually tolerate well.
If you store it upside-down until you open it, air cannot easily get in at the joining of the container and the lid, and it will keep way longer. So for me, that means I buy several quarts (or pints) of plain natural live-culture yogurt whenever it's on sale.
Thanks Connie, with my 4 kids I tell ya between the dogs and kids, the yogurts I buy(from whole foods) it's the best tasting one and has everything in it that I need, it goes fast! I cannot buy enought of it!
Can I freeze it or will that kill the cultures in it?
We have found that the absence of grain has been very beneficial. Also, the quality of the fats seems to be important. .....It seems that the regular addition of yogurt helps with the SIBO.
Hope this helps.
Thanks John. I have also found that no grain works best for her. In fact, I always assumed her problems were caused by a grain intolerance and perhaps some food allergies.
I will start adding yogurt, was going to anyway with her being on the antibiotics. Thank you for the suggestions!
