Ha-ha, I lived in Tempe for 2 years while teaching at ASU, and Phoenix is nothing to write home about either (!!!) but I wouldn't mind retiring up around Flagstaff, if I couldn't afford to live in my home state of California any longer -- Still, if you really believe the "Gestapo" won't get ya over there in Arizona, think again <:-(

neutered/spayed by four months?
All politics aside...that's young!
I wouldn't mind communism if it was just me on tropical island with a neverending supply of bananas and lots of dogs, and whenever I chose to visit friends or go to dog trials, I could fly into normal society with immunity to laws because I'd be the representative of my island country, and there were no rules on my island. Wait...that's anarchy....one person anarchy.

I will NOT neuter my dog because a law tells me I must do so.
Sounds like you all need to neuter the politicians who are trying to push this law through... I wonder what special interest group created this bandwagon?

.... -- Still, if you really believe the "Gestapo" won't get ya over there in Arizona, think again <:-( It's happening as we speak! That's why it's not where I want to be and want to move, and to someplace where my dog won't experience 115-120 degree temps in the summer and I can get some LAND so I can have more dogs and at least one horse.
And I meant to address the neutering at 4 months -

Probably PETA has a hand in it somewhere.

Hi Sandy,
My fiancee and I have begun looking hard at other places to live. We've had it with California. Cost of living, quality of life, demographics, and how they vote are going to be the major factors in making a decision. I spent 8 years living in France...long enough to recognize the signs and to see where we're headed.
I've read enough of your posts to know you and I are on the exact same page so when we find a good spot I'll let you know

Another thing sad about this:
IF the existing animal control laws in CA and elsewhere were actually enforced as they should be, people would not feel the need to bring in these sort of laws. BSL B.S. and Mandatory Spay/Neuter, etc etc. If the simple little dog at large laws aren't enforced, why create more laws that won't be enforced, either? For the $$ from the fines? That's stupid. I've never understood the point of creating more and more restrictive laws to attempt to correct a problem that could be corrected by enforcing the laws already in existance. Sheesh.

Because it gives the appearance that our elected officals are actually doing something. They can't and won't address the truly major problems that exist in California because to do so would expose the fatal flaws in their thinking and judgement....after all, their ideology created the mess we're in now. It's all smoke and mirrors

No, I don't think PETA has anything to do with a Spay/Neuter bill, here or anywhere else -- I think it's just like all the BSL mania, trying to legislate the population out of irresponsible dog ownership practices, which is impossible IMHO...
Since stats "show" that most bite infractions are committed by intact (male) dogs, I believe that vote-mongering politians think a mandatory spay/neuter bill will endear them to their knee-jerk electorate -- Remember, 4 pets (a pair of intact male & female Presa Canarios, and a pair of intact male & female pitbulls) killed 2 innocent people in SF within a 5 year period) and this stirred up folks who are afraid of dogs, especially since one victim was a child mauled to death by his family's own pets <:-(

True and Lear could be pals! That would be fun! Have you thought about Wyoming? I'm thinking about it. Only 500,000 people in the whole state! My kind of place. My son and I are going on a vacation there in April to look around and get a feel for the place. If you do find a place, PLEASE let me know, seriously. I think Wyoming would be heaven for dogs (and me). The amount of snowfall there has me a little concerned cause I'm a wimp, but prefer cold to heat anyday.
