Well, think about it: Do you want bones in your own burger?
How do you think I get my calcium??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Just kiddin.
I should add on a more serious note that I only order and pay for cases of chicken (whole and parts)
The rest of my meat (turkey necks, wings and organ meat, deer and buffalo) I get "donated" and for beef, I just have to pay the processing fee at the locker since it is our cattle we butcher. And I have people that rotate their freezers when they butcher new also, that is how I got all the ground meat.
The locker also saves me pieces of meat that they do not want to throw out, but just will not sell and they make up boxes of recreational bones for me every two weeks.
So my meat is relatively cheap.

Where does everybody order their meat from? I have yet to find a place around here that sells whole anything. Maybe because I'm pretty urban lol. I dunno? Anybody in New England know of a good place to get some meat from? I stopped feeding raw due to #1 a lack of freezer space, and #2 price. The grocery store is expensive to buy from.

Even if there is no butcher nearby, you could ask the supermarket meat guy for chicken backs (very cheap) and use them for RMBs, maybe with some cheap ground beef, plus organ meat (again, very cheap).
Eggs -- cheap.
If you read the ingredients here
http://www.leerburg.com/diet2.htm
you'll see that nothing is expensive.
Fish oil is a little bit of an initial outlay, but it lasts for a long time.
Then when you run across things on sale, you can add them to the basic diet.
It takes a little planning, but I do it without a separate freezer (although I would like to get one of those half-size freezers).

Thanks Connie,
I think I use to go overboard with Dunkin. Things I read said not to feed ground beef...is it ok or should i just keep it to a minimum? I went kind of crazy lol I kept thinking variety so he got a little of everything no matter the cost...steaks and all haha! He DEFINITELY ate better than me. Then I had to actually pay bills lol!

I live in Philadelphia and I found a place that sells a 40 lb box of leg quarters for $19.99 (about 50 cents a pound regular price), they also sell chicken backs for 39 cents a pound. Other stuff like organ meat I get from the super market because they are packaged with less blood in them. Look for places that sell meat wholesale to the public. I also go to farmers market places because they are easy to bargain with. When it is near closing time they will easily go down in price to get rid of what is left instead of having to pack it back in the freezer area.

Also, as far as feeding fish goes, is there anything they can't have? Once I got a bag of blue sticklebacks for super cheap and both the dog and cat LOVED them. Now that I think about it though I'm just curious if there's anything to watch for.

... he got a little of everything no matter the cost...steaks and all haha! ...
Variety doesn't mean beef steaks. It means using more than one protein source, and that can be accomplished easily by getting whatever is cheap to "flesh out" your basic RMBs. I use poultry for the basics; I know people who use rabbit. Then if you add some lamb flaps or neck (cheap), some beef heart..... pretty much whatever you see that's cheap ..... a little canned mackerel or sardines now and then ...
What's most important is to feed the equivalent of the meat-bone ratio that the whole animal has.
If you start simple, just remembering to replicate the meat-bone ratio of the prey and including 5-10% organ meat, then you can branch out as you go along.
Your story reminds me that if people have the idea that raw feeding is expensive and complicated, then they might not try it, or might give up because of the cost (of STEAK! ).
It's inexpensive and it's easy. Beyond that, we can all do what we have the time and resouces and energy to do.
JMHO.

I think that would be someone who supplies butchers..... not positive, though.
If you don't have a butcher, then you can start with the guy behind the meat counter in the supermarket.

Raw salmon from the Pacific northwest.
Cooked is fine (and canned, of course), and so is salmon from other places.
