The first thing I'd do is get that poor dog off Prozac: quote from article: "Mental health wise: Tucker takes 40mg of prozac a day. This decision was made to help ease his anxiety and was made based on the professional opinions of our vet and our animal behaviorist. Tucker isn't doped up, and in all honesty, the medication hasn't seemed to have had any affect at all. The decision whether or not to keep him on it will be made when we know what his future holds."
Good grief! Prozac??? The same stuff that has given humans suicidal thoughts, nervousness, anxiety, bad dreams, agitation, personality disorder, the list goes on. What the heck...giving a mind chemistry altering medication to a dog?? A med for HUMAN mind chemistry altering...what the heck.
The excuses given by the owners to get rid of this dog don't impress me much. Sounds like the same old "we're tired of dealing with this" in disguise.
Cindy, you're right: I don't know the rescue or the other side of the story, only what the owners have posted.
I also feel this dog is "fixable" but, I'd also be afraid that if he were in the wrong hands, things could go the other way and he could get worse and maybe even bite someone.
Anyway, there are escape-proof crates, such as the ones Leerburg sells, and muzzling the dog would prevent him breaking teeth. Presto! no more destruction.
Rescuers (and I myself am guilty of this), it's true, focus too much on excusing the dog's behaviour "because of his past". Tucker needs less excuses and more action to remedy his situation. I don't have the experience with difficult dogs to comment more, but I honestly believe this dog could be rehabilitated to the point that he could be managed.
i honestly dont no alot about it, as im in the uk and usa so there fore i cant pass judgement on the rescue kennels or the owners.
all i keep thinking is get that dog away from those people! we dont obviously no the full situation, only if dogs could talk!
i think there is more to it then the owners are telling us but the reason i posted this is because i want as many people to see this post as posible to give this dog a better chance in finding the right person who is willing to put things right with him,
there are so many dogs out there the same as tucker i no but the way i see it is we have to start somewhere .
