I've never been able to board a dog without an up-to-date kennel cough record. I really can't blame the boarding kennels for requiring this: it would be a PR nightmare if that ran rampant through their kennels...
re the rabies shots...our state has *finally* recognized that the "yearly" shots formerly required were actually effective for 3 years!
Unfortunately, each county can over-ride that state law and our county has: vets here report that the 3 yr shot must be given on a yearly basis.
Reason given: the county has recorded a couple of instances of rabies in the skunk and raccoon population over the years. Vets say too many folks (espeically in the rural areas) let the rabies shot lapse by several months, so the county requires it yearly.
I think that stinks, but it's the law here. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Amazingly, I just found a kennel in my area that does NOT require the kennel cough shot. From the kennel manager's own mouth: "worthless" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I don't board my dogs either but if I ever had to, I think this would be the place. LOL

Now I know <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
P.S
Have you been checking for that Sun Block 2000++++ for me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I found a kennel that only requires rabies vaccination, so they are out there. However, it's in the middle of a very liberal/progressive/outright strange town. The amazing thing is that Auster likes it there (took her in for daycare for a few days while moving, she was disappointed when I didn't take her on Saturday).
If you are going to be boarding in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area check out Love Overboard.

The KC vaccine only covers some strains anyway. Needless to say, the other strains are becoming more common since they don't reformulate it like the flu vacc. Forgot to add that to my last post. I agree with the kennel owner that called it worthless. It has such a short DOI you have to time it perfectly (almost) to get any sort of protective effect from the few strains it covers.
