While medication works.....please please try to tough it out for a while. Medication should be an absolute last resort.
This is a puppy that just needs to learn that the crate is a good place to be.
Medication does not always work. Nothing actually helped our dog get over her anxiety. The Buspar did help somewhat. IMO if a dog has anxiety so severe that they are getting soaked in drool the dog needs to be evaluated by a professional and have a plan worked out for them whether or not medication is involved.

Why am I being takes so dang literally today?
Geesh, I cannot win for losin......
Okay, medication MAY work, but cryin out loud, it is a PUPPY that is just LEARNING to be in a crate.
Medication is too often used as a crutch, when exercise, mental stimulation and good pack leadership would work wonders.
I have to add here that my Dutch would be soaked with drool also, but he got over it with dedication on my part. No meds involved, EVER.

I feel very sympathetic, Jeanne. That must have been miserable.
But as Carol mentioned, and as I'm sure we all agree, that kind of problem is NOT at all common, and NOT likely to be what most of us who have dogs who are throwing fits when we leave them in a crate are facing.
I love your photo, by the way! He's got TROUBLE written all over his face!
Hang in there...only let him out when he's calm, don't speak soothingly to him when he's acting a fool (he'll interpret that as praise) and make sure to give him lots of tiring activities. Make the brain tired, too! All the stuff you've heard before, I guess! Sorry there's really nothing more to help you except sympathy as you sit and listen to the noise! I feel your pain!
We are working with him daily on try to resolve the issue. He can be quite the little Demon Puppy he just needs a set of horns.
He sat for me to get a nice shot this morning though..
Hate to tell you guys this but with dogs like this the TOUGH LOVE that Carol (I think it was) suggested is the only way.
If this dog lived in my home his life would be the dog crate - 24/7 until he accepted it. He could scream until the cows come home and break off every baby tooth in his head but he would stay in that crate.
If he was still doing this at 4 months he would get a Tri-tronic NO-BARK collar on.
You can go through the cows knuckle bone and radios and TV's but some dogs it just doesnt matter. Usually this happens because of mistakes owners make right out of the chute. Which sounds like the case here.
Am close to being done with a e-book (maybe a printed book) on house training.
By the way - medication is NEVER THE ANSWER. Not EVER. ANY VET THAT GIVES MEDICATION FOR THIS IS A GD FOOL !!!!!!!!! WHO DOESNT DESERVE RESPECT OR A "DMV" behind his name

I wish I had found your site sooner, He has been like this from day one when we brought him home. Ed, any thoughts on why he would do it during the day and not at night when I put him in for bedtime? I think I will have to convince the rest of the family he has to go in and just "Bark till the cows come home".
No idea why the dog does this - from the photo he looks large enough that a no-bark collar would work on him. They work really well for separation anxiety. I cant tell you how many times I have recommended them and people write back in a couple of months and tell me they have a different dog.
The dogs find out that HEY LIFE HERE ISN'T AS BAD AS I THOUGHT.
Notice I only sell the Tri-Tronics bark collars. There are others on the market and I compare then all to a cheap suit. Their quality is questionable.
