there was an article in a veterinary journal about wound management with plain old table sugar. It worked even better than the honey, and the photos of the degloving wound were pretty amazing. They simply covered the wound with sugar and bandaged, and renewed the sugar with each bandage change.

I cannot provide a lot of scentific evidence on honey for treating wounds. As mentioned I have been told of honey having antimicrobial and healing properties. I do however know of a lot of anicdotal evidence of the healing porperties of honey. Many people swear by certain types of honey (melenduca sp?) for example. I have found that cheap regular honey works just as well in my experience. I think I remember something about the bacteria feeding on the sugar and being neutralized, instead of the flesh, but I am reaching here. I remember an article by a vet in the Dogs in Canada mag about packing wounds with sugar, so maybe it is just the sugar in the honey that is effective. Any who, having cut my dog a few times over the last two years (ski edges), I have been pleased with the cleanliness and speed of healing using honey vs. using polysporin for example. Sorry I can't provide more info! Hope your dog is healing well no matter what treatment you have chosen!
honey definitely has healing properties- the same journal had an article on honey and wound healing. They just felt the sugar was the more effective of the two, although both were effective (I think part of the advantage the sugar had was that it stayed in the wounds better).
