I am wondering of the boyfriend is doing too much and it is causing the dogs behavior???
I agree that this dog just may be beyond saving, however, it would be nice to get some answers as to what the BF is trying to do with the dog.
I also agree that the corrections are not being delivered effectively nor at the correct time.

Carol, I think the answer simply is that the BF is trying to pet the dog. (If you look on the adoption listing, it says the aggression happens when the BF is trying to pet the dog.)
I'm GUESSING the BF might be a physically intimidating person or may be using threatening body language.
I'm interpretting that the owner expects too much from the dog. If her goal is the dog tolerating the BF, she could have good success. If her goal is for the dog to bond with the BF, she will probably not get sucess.
Again - guesses. There's really no way to know without SEEING the entire situation. It still comes down to 1) euthanize the dog or 2) train and keep the dog.

Yep, I totally agree, that is why I asked her what the BF is trying to do with the dog.
It would actually be better if the dog was on a lead and a prong collar and the BF just did his business and ignored the dog.
Trying to "make friends" with a dog that does not want to return the gesture is just asking for trouble. IMO.
The corrections for the dog need to be delivered more effectively and the GF/handler needs to be more confident and not show any type of nervousness because she is worried about what the dog might do. (if that is the case).
I know this may sound crazy, but I keep thinking of the episode with Cesar Milan and the woman and her BF that were going to call off their wedding due to her PB mix that hated the BF....did you ever see that one?

To the OP: Can you have the dog evaluated by a Giant Schnauzer rescue? Often rescues are willing to do this, and they have experience with that particular breed so they can more easily recognize whether those charateristics can be "trained out" or not.

Okay...I will try and fill in some blanks here...first the dog is spayed, someone mentioned something about breeding, this has never been an option for me...with any dog!!
As for what my boyfriend does with her...he used to try and "bond" with her so to speak...try to pet her, feed her etc....after many aggressive incidents he's just come to ignoring her and going about his business...Once in a while he will throw a treat in her direction, and if he's lying down or sitting she will come up for a quick pat once in a while. I don't doubt that she is threatened by his natural posture, because as soon as he gets up she runs and growls.
IMO we will not be able to train this out of her...I can work with her but he is unable to due to time constraints. This is why I wanted to try and place her before just euthanizing her...this situation is 100% our fault and we do not have the capacity to fix it. Having said this, I will not hesitate to euthanize her if the right home can't be found. Sadly, this is most likely what will end up happening. I had hoped to return her to the breeder (as per our contract) for training, but they are refusing (in violation of our contract), and have since cut off all contact with us....this on top of misrepresenting the dog in the first place. DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM LEIDENSCHAFT KENNELS IF YOU CAN GET AROUND IT!! ...so my options have become very limited. I started advertising for a female only home with dog experience due to her breeders initial suggestion, but someone here brought up a good point...this will only cause avoidance...after all, I was once a single female home....
Thank you all for your suggestions and opinions....I'm not sure if i answered everyone or not...feel free to post again, send a message, or an email!! I will get back to you....
thanks again all...it helps to talk to experienced dog people about this...I'm still very inexperienced, and at 25, have only just begun my "dog" life....there will be many lessons learned from this situation in the end...

Did you and the breeder sign a "contract?" If you had the time and money you could consider legal action. But since the breeder is irresponsible you probably wouldn't want to turn the dog over to them anyway.

Yes we did actually sign a contract, and I agree...after this ordeal if the breeder called me and said they wanted the dog back I would not oblige...I feel they would not do anything in the dogs best interests (or in the public's). I have considered legal action...I have the fortune (LOL) of working at a law firm so obtained some very helpful legal advice from a few lawyers in the litigation department. I would have to sue them back in New Brunswick where the transaction took place...I am currently about 4000 miles away in alberta, so it is quite unworkable for me. Besides, I don't even really care about the money (the boyfriend thinks I'm NUTS after spending $1350 on her....like I said, MANY lessons have been learned...). I realize I am kind of a bleeding heart on this issue, and as time wears on my least favourable option is becoming more and more obvious as the only safe one. I don't want to endanger anyone else with her...I am quite biased, as she's very sweet with me.

I still think you should have her evaluated by a GS rescue or, a really good trainer.

I know most of you think my option is to drastic,
It may not be. But we can't really make that evaluation via the internet.
