Start with a hungry dog. Keep the sessions short and upbeat. Don't use the leash to keep your dog in position. Use the treat as a target; I use a very high-value treat.
The moment the dog looked away I would imediately take off fast then slow back down ( and if the eyes are there) reward. I would keep the sessions short and act very excited about the whole thing. Ending with a shory play session.
