Why the change in her food? If she has normal stool ,not throwing up, for me MO, I would go back to her normal diet.

Also, so how can a dog get salmonella from it's raw diet? or any illness? As long as the meat is fresh, there's no problem right? I can't figure out, why she got so sick. She had been doing great with every ingredient I put in her diet.
So glad your pooch is doing better! Did I miss where your dog was diagnosed with salmonella??? Did they do a fecal on the poop she pooped at the vet?
I would not suspect the chicken. I would suspect something new. Are the shavings from a new protein source or are they from an animal the dog has had before? Was there maybe a lot more fat in them then the dog is used to?
Really I am thinking this had to do with the corn. Something even partially obstructing the dog may cause irritation, even once the obstruction is passed. Plus your dog is not used to the grain. Thinking the dog just needs some time to get over it. If the dog is hungry, has energy, and is forming stools then i would say you are on the road to recovery.
They also gave me some metronidazole? tablets to give her twice a day. Is that for an upset stomach?
The antibiotics you have are ones I have been given by my vet before. Ironically they give my dog an upset stomach, which is apperently not uncommon.
I might include some slippery elm powder to calm the digestive tract for a bit, no matter what diet you decide on now. If you are going to give the antibiotics, I would suggest some digestive enzymes and probiotics when you start back up on the raw.

Thanks for everyone's replies!! Thanks for that link Carol! I was just thinking exactly what Jennifer said. After reading the info on the link, I think I am going to skip on those meds. I think I will give my dog the blandest raw for a few days again then go back to where we were
Jennifer, she did not get salmonella, but I was just wondering how can a dog get salmonella on a raw diet? Since I'm so new to raw, I thought it was a possibility. I figured, she ate the cob Fri night, had her raw meal Fri night when we got home. Her raw meal Sat morn, then again Sat night. If that cob was blocking her stomach, then she would have had the raw chicken in her stomach for a day and a half. It was just something I had in my mind, since I saw the piece of cob she coughed up and was still showing she was in pain. It was quite a scare for an upset stomach but I guess I should just be happy she's better and they didn't have to open her up to remove any more cob.
I'm now thinking I gave her too much of the meat shavings. I'm not exactly sure if it was all beef, or beef and pork, but it was definitely a new protein source. I know it was maybe 2 days old and it was in the freezer. I guess I won't find out until I give it to her again in a few days

Just wanted to update. My dog has been fine on her chicken only the last few days. Something is wrong with those meat shavings though. Last night I gave her some again, about 1/3 of what I gave her the 1st time. Well she puked it out 3 minutes after she ate it. Before I fed it to her, I examined it and smelled it thoroughly and it seemed fine. What can be wrong?

Alex, there could be any number of things wrong with the meat shavings. If she's having problems with it, best be safe and just dispose of it where she WON'T be able to get hold of it again. Meaning, don't just dump it in the inside trash.
Glad to hear she's doing better!

Yes, glad to hear she's doing better!
I've had similar situations where we fed meat (it was lamb) that seemed totally fine, only to give Oscar tummy trouble later in the night. We only tried 2 times with it before we chucked it, even though it SEEMED fine (it wasn't cheap either!). Who knows what's going on with it, just get it out of the kitchen.

Thanks guys, I did toss it. For a second there, I thought of cooking it and feeding it that way, but decided against it. I had to throw away all 7lbs. I don't know if I should go back to that place for more or another meat market? I sometimes get the meat shavings for free or .25/lb at other places. I don't want to be spending $2.99/lb for ground beef.

Wow, enlightening.
I also would have assumed after a couple of days that it would have digested. I can't beleive how long it was in there before symptoms appeared. Scary. Thanks for sharing.
