Just out of curiosity, were the other pups chosen by the new owners for working or pet reasons. Is the little prey monster there because of that reason or there just weren't enough buyers?
Try going to your local Sch club and see if there is a new member there who might want a good prospect for free. At least you'll know the dog will be trained and taken care of.
Hi Lynda. Our police dept. could most definately use a new dog. The one they have is retiring @ 11 yrs very shortly. I can get you in touch of the dept. Lt. if you prefer to speak to him. Can you forward pics so that I may pass onto them? It is Gloucester Twp Police dept. in NJ (South Jersey). I have a new male czech I'm picking up this Sat night for SAR training. But if you would consider donating to the police dept. I know they would greatly appreciate it as it's usually a 5K price tag for a new pup. Can you send pics? Thanks ina dvance and have a great night.
What about me! I want a free puppy Just kidding, I really wish I can take in a new puppy for free. I would suggest you to contact the police department about the puppy with intense prey drive.
"It's better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right"
Thanks for saying so Peggy. We just picked him up at the airport. That pic was taken in the breeders home in Oregon. I'm so excited and very eager to begin his obedience training, then onto SAR work. I have so many questions that eventually I'll get them all out in here. I'll be placing more along the way. Have a great night.
Harry, beautiful handsome pup. Just remember to work on bonding before obedience. There's plenty of time for obedience training. It's more a case of imprinting at this very young age than actual obedience training. Don't go too fast.
Photos are not supposed to be the focus of this board. Training is. People are allowed to post a photo of THEM and their dog in the member bio section, and in the tribute to a lost friend section.
As a breeder who has had a few pups left after 8 weeks, I talk to other breeders who know me and my dogs. In the meantime I train them as if I were going to keep them. Be patient, the perfect person will come along. The one time I wasn't patient, it came back to bite me when the dog was two years old. He was too much dog for the owner and through her lack of leadership had ruled her home. He came back to me, but it could have ended up worse for him. Hang on. Advertise. Screen. Trust your gut instinct. I don't advertise at all locally only online and through breed oriented sites like siriusdog, pedigree database, etc.
Sorry for not responding sooner I have been on the go quite a bit the last couple of days.
Howard,
Both. We were not able to find an appropriate working home for the prey intense pup and due to no other responses to our previous ad for the other one. The dog club suggestion is a great thought though. Thank you.
Harry,
If you can forward the information for the police dept. to me I would be happy to talk to them about it. My email is in my profile. I am going to try to post this link to a photobucket page I just created. I have never used it before so I am not sure I have it right.
I did try the pedigree database but the only response I got from there was some kind of dog broker in UK. It smelled like a scam to me so I never even responded to it. Hadn't heard of siriusdog before. Thank you for the tip!
I am glad you said that about gut instincts. My gut instinct is what kept me from allowing some of the people who looked at our pups from choosing either one of these two and now I'm glad I listened to it!
By the way, the light blue pup in the pictures is the intense prey drive pup and light green is the confidant little "tank".
Thanks again for all of the helpful suggestions. I now have a few more avenues to try!
Lynda
