Have you considered using Parvaid? ( http://www.ambertech.com/parvaid.php )
I have never used it myself but it was highly recommended to me by several experienced breeders (raw-feeding no vaccine breeders). It's a herbal remedy that's supposed to help a dog overcome parvo and it's meant to be given in addition to the supportive care & antibiotics that the vets use.
I hope your little guy pulls through
Ditto! I would honestly feel MUCH more optimistic about Parvo in an unvaccinated pup, esp. a raw-fed one, b/c at least their immune system is running on all 8 cylinders. The vets forget to mention that they don't even know if vaccines work when they try to guilt you and blame an illness on lack of shots or raw food.
Ahhh! I somehow missed the last half of this thread and it may be too soon, but I just want to say....TOLD YA SO!!! SO glad to hear he's doing better. Now, how many vaccinated pups have a turnaround that quickly w/Parvo??? WHOOHOOO! Keep us posted on the next few days.

Congratulations Ted!
That's wonderful news
To second Jenni; if you had vaccinated your pup recently, he may not have pulled through this at all. For what it's worth I think you did everything right for your pup.
The reason I chose to forego all vaccines for my dogs and puppies was what I heard from so many breeders who used to vaccinate their pups. They got tired of seeing their fully vaccinated puppies die from parvo (not to mention all the problems the vaccines were causing) so they stopped vaccinating.
When they stopped vaccinating, they stopped losing their pups to parvo. Some still got it, but they were taken to the vet at the first sign and bounced right back (just like your guy) and had no trouble beating the disease (unlike vaccinated pups).
You're absolutely right about parvo being EVERYWHERE. These breeders don't isolate their pups either; they take them out to socialize and they even take them to dog shows/competitions when they're a little older.
When the titer tests come back on these pups at 7-8 months, the vets scratch their heads in disbelief. To see such strong antibody presence in unvaccinated animals is not what they were taught at school. According to them, there is no such thing as exposure to parvo without getting sick. Right...
Anyway, I hope that your pup will be back to his old self soon. GREAT news

He also had Giardia. The combo of the two overwhelmed him. But he'll be coming home soon.

Thanks Debbie,
Actually they are all surprised. I was told there would be days of this, and that today would actually be the worst. He showed the first signs Saturday nite at 12:00, and last BM, etc was at 8:00PM on Sun. No vomit or BM since then, and blood values are all holding. Today is actually a very good day.
And then you say "Well, of course he has great immune function from being raw-fed."
Seriously, this kind of recovery is NOT the norm. There is obviously (to me) a big edge to this pup's immune response.

LOL. Unvaccinated pup bounces back in record time from Giardia and Parvo. Eat that, conventional veterinary medicine! Great news, Ted! I hope you are even more secure in the notion that you did the absolute best thing for your pup.

Interesting... I have both camps PM'ing me. Both say "I told you so"
"... see, you should have vaccinated"
"... see, you didn't need to vaccinate"

Facts:
You did not vaccinate.
You fed raw.
Your pup got Giardia AND Parvo.
Your pup is going to be home less than 2 full days after showing symptoms of a deadly virus.
Hmmm, sounds like a pretty good immune system to me.
How could vaccinating have made this situation any better? ![ smiley for :onfused:](http://leerburg.com/forums/images/graemlins/default/confused.gif) He's astounded the vets...and here I was hoping that the shot camp would finally pipe down and realize that they're not giving these little ones a fighting chance. It's like tying someone's hands and then throwing them into the ocean.
FWIW, I have a bunch of animals, and many, many times, people have called me about very sick dogs/cats that mine have come in contact with, concerned that my poor, unvaccinated, defenseless beasts were going to succomb to "x" illness. NOT ONCE have they come down w/anything they were exposed to. And I'm not talking in the last year or so, or about very young animals. My oldest is around 10, and my youngest is 15weeks. I've been feeding totally raw for about 5-6yrs, and haven't vaccinated in the same. NOT just dumb luck, IMO.
