Hi all -- I am happy to say that it was my club that Frank visited tonight! Yana is a doll - don't see a need for a muzzle for sure or even really a prong yet for this little girl.
I think teaching and reinforcing a lot of focus on him and eye contact along with a confident handling attitude on his part will have them strolling right past other dogs in the future. Teaching a good "leave it" command reinforced by a pop on the flat collar, a change in direction and a treat for paying attention to Frank probably is a good game plan too.
Amber Morgan has had a few good posts about this subject too. I remember some advice that she gave helped me in a similar situation. I 'll try to find that and post back later.
Not only did I love visiting the club, I was amazed with what these people have tought their dogs to do. Excellant dogs and people, I look forward to learning as much as I can from them.
Yeah, and if you keep going and learning various techniques, YOU too will be one with your dog doing all those amazing things!!! (not that club is *required* to do amazing things, but it sure helps me...
Thanks for the update.
Ok so with just a little work showing Yana that paying attention to me results in good little treats she was great last night in town with other dogs and in petsmart. She let out a little bark here or there but I immediatly got her attention and gave her a treat thus distracting her from the other dogs. She passed this test 4 different times with honors. Im so happy. But now to get her some kind of drive for a toy is proving challenging.
