She was vaccinated for Rabies 4 weeks ago?
Seems to me that from your description of her lack of normal appetite and vomiting could be a vaccinosis reaction.

I would be looking for a homeopath that can treat her.

we have a list of holistic and homepathic vets, by state.

Now I'm going to have to read. A lot, aren't I, Cindy?
Any links you have to get me started? I understand Vaccinosis, but I've never studied it in depth.

David: unfortunately every single time your pup receives a vaccine, you're risking vaccinosis.
So while there may be risks in not vaccinating at all, there's always going to be a risk to vaccinate.

It can be a REALLY tough issue to figure out, but reading up is a good idea.

I personally opted to follow Cindy & Ed's advice and to go the 0 vaccine route with my current pup. She's amazingly healthy now at 8 months.

My other two both had reactions to their shots at one time or another. Vomiting and lack of appetite is right at the top of the list of things to lookout for following a vaccine.

Of course your vet will most likely say that unless the dog was sick immediately following the vaccine (as in, within a few hours), it's unrelated.

Not true, vaccine reactions can easily appear days, weeks, even months after the shot.

Best wishes for your pup. I hope she feels better soon.

When do you get test results back?
I would try to entice her to eat with some boiled rice and skinless boneless white meat chicken and maybe some plain yogurt or cottage cheese.

I hope everything turns out well.

Debbie: thanks so much for your PM. I'll be responding soon.
Yuko: Thanks for the well wishes.

Unfortunately in Southern California I have no choice about Rabies, it's mandated by law. Although it is only a misdemeanor... :p

Carol: She's on cottage cheese as part of her normal diet (1 tbsp / night) and I had her on oatmeal for two days after her first episode. I didn't try switching her to a less rich meat, so maybe I'll try white chicken meat.
Results will be available tomorrow morning after 9am. We'll see how it looks then.

Blood test came back with no abnormalities. Fecal won't be in until monday. She's still refusing food. I got her to eat about 1 quarter of her normal meal last night, by hand feeding her. I put RMBs in her crate this morning and she just ignored them.

You know the importance of water, right? Even if you have to simmer a piece of white chicken and then cool that water to room temp, the dog needs to be hydrated.
Signs of dehydration require an immediate trip to the vet.

Oh, Puhleeeze! David, it's mandated everywhere. These are the times you gotta go a little renegade . Do you honestly think California is the only state that mandates rabies? I vaccinate for rabies when my dogs reach an age and temperament that they are LIKELY to bite someone. Caleb is the only dog in my house current on rabies, and that's b/c he's a jack@$$ and also b/c he went to Canada, and border patrol is not terribly lenient there. He was over 2 yrs old, and naturally I lied so I could do the 3yr instead of the one year, b/c they won't let you do a 3 yr right off the bat.

I wait as long as possible to give rabies. Remember, you will only be charged if there's an incident ! Keep your dog under control. I would not have vaccinated her this young come hell or high water. Not saying that it's what caused this, or it's your fault, but I'll be damned if I let the gov't have a negative effect on MY babies' health. JM(renegade)O.
