Hi Stephanie,
So sorry to hear of your troubles. I would only meet them somewhere else and not let them see my dogs or how they live ever again if there is a chance they can cause you trouble. It would be horrible to be forced to lose your dogs.
I'm a Dobe owner and I see how much prejudice there is out there. I'm always told how she is going to attack me one day. It's worse for Pits - it's a real witch hunt out there. It just shows you the hearding mentality of humans. They'll follow whatever the media dishes out. Just a shame they don't think for themselves.
Good luch and you've got 2 beautiful girls there :-)

When I first read your post, I was going to ask why do you need their approval? But then I found out in the rest of the post.
The sad reality is that people everywhere, will share the opinions on childrearing and animal husbandry, whether invited or not, and if your way is Different from theirs, then it must be WRONG.
My favorite response to my family has become, Just because we do NOT agree, doesn't make either of us wrong, just different.
There are different ways to raise children and pets, and sometimes what works for one child or pet will not work with another. That is what makes them individuals.
I do hope that you inform them of the visit and that they found nothing wrong... I'd leave out the middle part. :-)
Cheers!
Louanne

Stephanie, I'm so sorry that this happened to you, especially around the holidays. Sounds like you did just fine w/ the ASPCA...and sounds like you will be better off without those particular family members in your life.

I think you're right. Making worse enemies of people who are afraid of your already-much-maligned breed of pet is going to do you no good at all.
Agaun, my dark heart rebels, but I'd have to consider how best to keep trouble from my door.

I am so sorry girl. What an awful thing to have happen. Did your family not know you had dogs when they came over?
I'll play Devils Advocate here. Although it is obvious that your family is VERY ignorant (think that pits will turn vicious based on what they are fed, don't know about crates), they at least showed concern for your dogs and risked their relationship with you, because probably they honestly thought your dogs were in some kind of danger.
I certainly don't like their approach - they should have had an open discussion with you and done some research rather than call the authorities (I still can't quite believe it!) - but, I certainly hope they were acting out of concern for the dogs and NOT just to get you in trouble. (I don't think that would make sense because they must have known that trying to get you in trouble would mean they had to stay in a motel and probably lose all contact with you).
I am very sorry your holidays are ruined! At least the SPCA lady was nice enough to apologize and I agree you should have a second, "real" inspection done so that they have it on file that you co-operated and your dogs are well cared for. (When you own a pit bull, you can never be too careful when it comes to the law).
Again... I'm really sorry to hear what happened and I'm angry too!!!!!

Stephanie,
It's just a shame we all don't have "leave it to beaver" or "father knows best families". I'm glad to hear that you and your dogs came out OK on the other end; but that's horrible what they did to you.

hmmm...maybe you should call them up and say...
"OH Boy!! You've really done it now!! The girls know what you did and they aren't happy. Thought you ought to know that I just lost all my say in the matter, the next time you come to my door! The girls are pissed! Although, if you want to come over today, you might be safe, they are still full from what's left of the ASPCA guy!
LOL!!!

I called and talk to the lady.
She is sending someone out here tomorrow. To do a new one and also my family is no longer aloud in my home or around my pets. Thanks for the help.

If I had this kind of scrutiny on me and my dogs, I'd probably have printouts of the LB list of book titles that deal with JUST RAW FEEDING, and which are mainly written by vets. I would probably also have at least one article about crate-training printed out (and these articles are EVERYwhere online, too).
I say this because even people in positions of authority sometimes do not know about the huge changes that are happening and have happened in the world of serious dog-care in the last 2 decades.
You could do yourself and maybe others a favor by having authoritative information at your fingertips.
