I've noticed my raw fed dogs never had issues w/ears, but kibble-fed dogs do.
We talked about this once at a club "after-chat," and that was pretty widely agreed-upon.
I don't know why (I mean, kibble is supposedly supplemented with the appropriate calcium amount)..... possibly the form of calcium, which I'm guessing would be the right one in bones, eggshells, and other dog-appropriate foods.
Interesting.....

Kori: Your little guy looks so cute and it even looks like he enjoys his picture taken!
I was just looking through Ed's ebooks and noticed a book on how to tape a shepherds ears, have you had a chance to read that one?
I just wanted to let you know it is available to you in the ebook files.
God bless you

Looks ok, as long as he leaves it alone. If he doesn't, I like the shoe inserts b/c you can cut them into the exactly perfect shape and glue them so the ear can't bend forward. I would think you should check in a couple weeks. I would add extra calcium, esp. if he's teething still. Egg shells, more bones, etc. He's cute regardless.

Rats! (Jenni- he just got it loose, dangit!) I am snowed in (well, not technically, but I'm too lazy to go out on our road which is covered in 4" snow right now ), so I'll retape w/what I used earlier, and as soon as I can get to the store, i'll get shoe inserts, and more tape, along w/some glue. I'm already giving more rmb's and eggs w/shells, and I'm also going to buy some Knox gelatin when I go out.
Thanks - I love him even w/the floppy ear, but I'd still like to get it to stand.

Why gelatin?
FWIW, the food value of packaged gelatine is based largely on the Knox promo and advertising cleverness. I'd say "Save your money."
Even what marginal value it has is protein (incomplete) more than calcium. It's a better emulsifier than it is a superfood.
P.S. "I am snowed in (well, not technically, but I'm too lazy to go out on our road which is covered in 4" snow right now" -- that's "snowed in" in my book!

Kori - according to the research I have done you should keep replacing the tape whenever he takes it off for one week. Then you take the tape off and see if the ear will stand. As long as it's standing you leave it alone, when it starts to fall then you re-tape for another week to 10 days. Continue until the ear stands on its own.
Your tape job looks good and the ear looks like its in the right place to me, no need for a bridge.
I'm going to tape the ears on my pup - I've had opinions that it may not work but I'm going to give it a go anyhow (hes a mix breed) - so we can compare notes! heh

Well, shoot! I am just full of incorrect information, it seems. I was told that Knox gelatin (unflavored) is made from marrow, and that it would help. Oh, well - I will still get the tape/glue/shoe inserts, and keep up w/the increased calcium in his diet. He's certainly not complaining - he's been eating a completely raw diet for 3 or 4 days straight now. LOL! His ear got me to switch all the way over to raw (at least for now, and probably forever). Who'd a thunk it???
Thanks all of you for your help and input! Cross your fingers for me!
