This is true. The German Shepherds are quite nihilistic, prone to depression and cut themselves for attention.
Xander said you told him you'd keep it a secret. He's pissed, but I think it's funny.
We can debate this all day long, and in the end, it comes down to what particular breed/dog strikes something within that person. JMO. ALL have given good suggestions and input.

I personally like the Mal and the Dutch.
Their tenacity, willingness to please and courage are the traits I like best. They keep trying til they get it right.

Yeah, I should put the GSD on my list as well, at the bottom, but on the list. Not the dog for me, but definitely a contender and I do love to watch the good ones work.

For me,best guard dog breeds are:rottweiler, cane corso and beacuseron(I´ll be happy when you will give me your opinion about that breed....why aren´t they popular as guard dog...they are really fast and agile,sharp...)
From what I understand about the Beauceron, they are very similar to German Shepherds in temperament and versatility. They're generally a little bit bigger, but they seem to have all of the traits that I like in the GSD (I think GSDs win hands-down, but I admit that I'm biased). They're aloof to strangers, but not shy, athletic, with a natural protective instinct and a huge amount of versatility. I've heard that the more dominant members of the breed are not for everyone, but that can be said for GSDs, Mals and many other breeds as well.
The problem with them is that they are scarce. I think that answers your question about why they aren't seen more as PPDs or Schutzhund dogs. They're not that common (at least in the states) and Mals and GSDs work so well and good dogs are relatively attainable. While I like the Beauceron, my opinion is that if the GSDs and Mals ain't broke, why fix them? You'd probably have a harder time finding a quality Beauceron than a GSD or Mal, but then again, I don't know where you live. Maybe you're filthy with them.
Anyway, for people or object guarding they sound like a fine choice. I've always thought they were cool dogs, although I admit that I haven't come across many (I've met a whopping two of them--both Schutzhund dogs). They look a bit like a Dobie-Rott hybrid...gorgeous dogs, IMO.

There is one more thing why I don´t like malinois....here in my town are lots of dominant and agressive dogs like dogo argentino, some rottweilers....and I´m worried if some of them attack malinois!!
Second reason is I love mollos beacuse few good trainers said to me that mollos(cane corso, rottweiler)are better for guard work beacuse of they NATURAL terittorial and defence drive, and if I will takeing shepherd that I should buy beauceron beacuse he has drives like malinois but is a bit bigger and stronger so I shouldn´t worried if some of that dogs attack my dog!
Is it me or are others missing this part of his thread?

Peggy, I kind of took it to be a bit of a language miscommunication and that he was saying there are a lot of powerful breeds in his area and he wanted a dog that could hold his own if need be. I didn't think he meant that he wouldn't actually *care* if his dog got attacked.
I am assuming here, though, I don't know...

Amber – that is a possibility, but it sent chills up my back. I certainly don’t mean any disrespect to the OP, but I would rather reiterate the importance of protecting your dog from such attacks since I am not exactly sure of the OP’s experience.

Yes,thank You Amber....I don´t know so good english,so sometime I express me wrong,excuse me!
Has anyone here cane corso?
I´think that cane corso and rottweiler are similarly breed in character?Who is better for you and why?
I was looking beaucerons beacuse they are big and strong but at the same time extremly agile and really fast!
I must decide beetwen:beauceron, rottweiler and cane corso...I think all of that breeds with proper training will be excelent guard dog,but I want from dog also good ball and prey drive, agility and speed....I think that beaucerons and rottweilers are best choices, what do you think?
Thank You,Vedran

I'd take a Rottie if those were my only choices.
My niece has a Cane Corso, and I am not impressed at all. He is a pet, but has bitten out of fear and is just a "don't know what he will do" type dog.
I know there are some good ones out there, but I think they are few and far between.
What about a Dogue de Bordeaux
There is another one out of Africa that I am thinking about and I cannot think of the name....dang.....Patty LaBelle had one on a Cesar Milan episode.......UGH!!!!
Ahhh....here it is...... Boerboel

Part of what you may want to think about is where you live. Whats available to you there. In my opinion if you don't have the right contacts to import a dog for you you are going to want to know your breeder to be able to verify you are getting whats advertised. I'm partial to Rottweilers.
