I know how bad vet bills can get. I had one dog with pancreatitis that was going to die since the owner had no money. When I took him in they estimated that his cost of care would be approx $1200 all the way to $1800 if he would need intravenous feeding. 2 mo later and I am chipping away on a $$3700 charge on my credit card. OUCH!
I particularly hate when you ask about a fee, then when handed the bill there are added charges for "office visit" or "medical supplies" IF I would have known entering the building was an added charge or that I would need to pay for the alcohol swab after then shot, I would have met the vet in the parking lot.
whenever I get a vet script I take it to the local ACC or now what I work with shelters, I take them to the rescue here. If anyone is ever in need for a type of antibiotic, shelters seem to beat all others prices since they are non profit and buy them in bulk for URI and other stray related issues. Calavamox and Doxy as well as many other meds are WAY cheaper.
I didn't buy the ear wash from the vet, I just got a human grade ear wax removal from Wally world. She told me that if I didn't use theirs that the wax buildup would prevent the gook from coming out. So, I got a wax removal. I use it first, let him shake it out, then I use a warm vinegar/water mixture to further get him to shake it out. Then I use flat cotton pads curled up longwise and put them into the ear to clean out the remaining gook.

Is it 100% yeast? No bacteria?
They never told me, they just said it was yeast.

This is an ointment? Or is it more like a dropper-applicator?
It's an oinment. I decided to clean his ears out twice before attempting to use the medicine. The vet did say that the gook was between the medicine and the eardrum so I figured a good couple of cleanings would help before I started putting that very expensive ointment down in his ear. Thing is, I just put it in after cleaning his ear and I can almost guarantee it didn't get anywhere near his eardrum. It's too thick! This is pissing me off! GRRRRRRR!
Hi Robbin, you might not have put the ointment down his ear far enough.I have treated yeast infections a million times and after you clean the ears with the wash, dry it with a cotton rag, then you have (maybe hubby) help you hold his head and put the ointment in his ear, nicely IN the ear not on the outer portion where you can see it clearly...make sense, I know it gets hard to do when you are the only one doing it but maybe with some help you'll be able to get it in properly..
