please try not to lump all chain store trainers in one big "they're so stupid" pot. Some of us (taught at PetsMart for 5 years) actually DO know something.
Look at it the other way around... how many "stupid pet owner" stories do you think I could tell you!!
I'll bet you could!
And yes, that's a good reminder: generalizations are just that.... generalizations.

All I have to do is look out my window to see this. LOL
I haven't used chokers for a long time because I had read some reports and data from autopsies that chokers cause soft tissue damage. I quess anything can cause soft tissue damage if used incorrectly. From what I understand is that the way a choker tends to bind on the links and rings it is more prone to cause this damage and how the chain is relatively thin. I swithched to dominant collars like Ed sells. Or I will use a fur saver or martingale depending on what the need is. I have also seen dogs where the hair hand been rubbed away or ripped out where the chain rides. It always scares me when people let ther dogs run around with chokers on all the time, if unattended or unsupervised it is easy for a dog to hang themselves going under or over a fence, or getting caught on something.
I think I might have read or listened to one of Ed's articles or podcasts or something where he mentioned this also about choke chains. Sorry Ed if I am mistaken.
I looked at the prong collar article and the dominant collar e books. He is not a fan of chokers.

Edit reason: clarification
A friend of mines dog actually lost it's 'bark' on a flat and choke collar. Another example of how uninformed people really are - the pet store I buy my supplies from, hide the prong collars under the counter because they upset customers so much, yet those same customers head right for the choke collars.
