I won't pretend to know the person or the site that you mean, Sue, because I know of more than one who fits that description.
I will say, though, that if a person makes his/her living by doing personalized menus for individual dogs, then s/he would be putting a dent in his/her own wallet to remove an entire food group from the list of "possibles" when s/he describes the variables in the creation of a dog's individual diet plan.
To recognize that the animal's digestive system has not evolved in 50-60 years (but, BTW, not its teeth, jaw, enzymes, or intestine) would be to admit that most dogs are very simple in their nutritional needs.
I am not denigrating canine nutritionists; I wish more people in the companion animal sector would study nutrition.
I do find it unsettling, though, when a few use what I call HillScience to back up a "need" for normal, healthy dogs for extended consultation (paid) in order to compound an "individual" diet ... via email and telephone and with no physical eval whatsoever.

P.S. And then I compare them with people like Mary Strauss, who does the exhaustive research, compiles the info, and then presents it on her DogAware site (as well as in Whole Dog Journal), and my optimism returns.
No HillScience behind her articles and answers.

How about the theory that dogs have suddenly "evolved" within the last 60 or so years to require and thrive on poor quality grain based foods?
Sometimes I wish I had an icon of a dog cocking it's head when it hears a strange sound or Tim the Toolman Taylor doing his classic "ehhhhhhhhh???" sound.
I agree totally. I changed my signature pic just for you. Is this like you had in mind?

Dried beet pulp is horse food. I always wonder why they put it in dog food. Probably as a cheap filler.

In our house, we give Oscar a voice over of Scooby Doo's classic "ahroouuu??"
Too funny, we do the same thing! Along with the silly voice imitation of "scooby snack?" when giving him treats!
Back to the OP....I wouldn't feed this to anything. I looked at the JOY PROFESSIONAL ADULT FORMULA chicken meal with rice. Out of the first 8 ingredients 5 are plant/grain based, one is a flavoring. The only two animal sources are Chicken by-Product Meal & Poultry Fat.
Sounds delicious....NOT.

It is used as a filler for horses as well. I have a mare that will eat and eat and eat and gain a ton of weight on just hay. So she is on Beet Pulp to fill her gut so she won't eat as much hay and gain weight.
I put her on it as a last ditch effort when she foundered on me.

I have seen some pretty bad foods since learning about all this. This one is pretty bad as well. The worst food I think I've seen is beneful though. Especially compared to how they depict their food on the commercials lol. OMG. Some other horrible foods are "old yeller". I've seen it at the store and saw it costs about 24 cents per pound. We should have a sticky for top 10 worst kibbles.

A little off topic....but I know people who swear by Purina Pro-Plan.....IMHO...YUK!!!
Why is it that there is this warped sense that they think dog food companies spend millions of dollars on research to ensure proper health for your dog. When in all actuality they spend that money on marketing strategy to get people sucked into buying it?
Yes, I agree, good quality kibble is okay for those not wanting or who just cannot bring themselves to go raw. But to feed this crap and then pounce on what we feed our dogs is ridiculous.
I always point out how many times I visit the vet as opposed to them, and I drag out my ledger and show them that I spend less per year on dog food and vet care and ALL of my dogs are insanely healthy. Their dogs are overwieght, smell like dogs, need teeth cleaning, ear infections, lots of deposits in the yard ect....
Sorry guys, but I just needed to vent that.
