This is how I monitored the recall:
Go to Google News. Over on the left, you will see "news alerts." It will lead you to a screen where you input your terms and your email address.
When I subscribed to this topic, I used DOG FOOD RECALL. You can unsubscribe at any time.
They send you just one email daily with all alerts in it (if there are any). Believe me, there has been an email on that topic almost every single day for the whole year.
